Highly recommend the audiobook format for this one!

Honestly pretty good, nothing extraordinary but it was good. I’m not a huge fan of autobiographies, but this dude did it gooood. It was funny and entertaining enough to enjoy it. As I said autobiographies are still not my cup of tea, but I think this is an autobiography that I would still recommend because it was good, just not my thing.

Absolute best memoir I've read about a celebrity (sorry Mindy). What sets it a part is how Trevor Noah takes the memoir as an opportunity to inform his readers about the cultural dynamics of apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa, which isn't widely known or understood. He manages to make it really funny at times as well. 5 stars!

Trevor did such a good job with this! His storytelling really brings you in and helps you imagine what it was like growing up in South Africa. There was such a range of stories - I laughed, I gasped, I got pissed, and I almost cried. The only thing that was follow was the timeline as he does jump around to different times in his childhood/young adulthood throughout the book.

I don’t give stars to memoirs because I feel like it’s weird to give star to someone’s life.
I did enjoy this book a lot. I feel like I learned a lot about Africa, particularly South Africa, and the apartheid. I feel like it was a very unique story that I haven’t heard before, but I really could tell that Trevor painted a picture of what typical life was during and after the apartheid, which was really interesting to read.
I also really felt like I could connect with Trevor, even though I don’t live in South Africa. Being a mixed kid and just having your identity be different than all those around you, was really refreshing to read. I really identified with a lot of his comments even though we’re from different countries and continents.
Overall it was a really good memoir. I still don’t know how I feel about his mom but clearly he has a great amount of love and respect for her. I just feel our backgrounds are so different that we judge parenting very differently.

I had no idea about Noah’s upbringing. What a story and a great listen by the author!! Love Trevor even more now.
