A huge thanks to the Author for sending over this review copy :) .

When life throws you a curveball, how do you deal with it? Do you sink back into darkness or fight back? .
.
This novel consists of 5 stories of 5 different individuals connected by a single link. You will have to read till the very last chapter to realise what or rather who the link is :) .
.
Life works very mysteriously and often tests our abilities. The author has done a brilliant job in passing on a strong message with every chapter. Be it joy, failure, insecurities or forgiveness this book puts out all the emotions in front of the reader. When life gets you low and kicks you down, always do remember that you can choose to get back up. .
.
Life lessons are important to keep reality in check. I would rate this book 4/5.

My oh my! I picked up this book yesterday and struggled to keep it down. I was glued to it and could barely contain my excitement. There are few books that keeps you completely engrossed in its plot and this novel was one of such kind.
.
.
The story revolves around lives of a village where people die or go missing mysteriously. When Jay dies unexpectedly and his friend Tarun goes missing on the same day, their families step into solve the case. The story has few solid twists and turns that kept me gripped till the very last page. .
.
As you read along, the story keeps you guessing about who the culprit might be and keeps you brainstorming for all the possible answers. This book truly made my day. I wouldn’t want to give away spoilers so why don’t you get your copy right now and solve the mystery? :) .
.
I would rate it 5/5.

A huge thank you to Writersmelon for sending this review copy in exchange of an honest review.
I broke my own record today by completing this book in just a day. Does that say anything about how wonderful this book is?
We have all heard tales of awe about the mighty Bhishma. But little do we know how he derived that name. Bhishma is a very well-known Indian Mythological character whose life was filled with turbulence. The mightiest, bravest and loyal Bhishma has a very interesting story about his origin and this book gives a glimpse of the same. The author has done an outstanding job by offering his story to the readers.
This book took me by surprise because there were so many details that I wasn’t aware of. This book revolves around Satyavati who was the Queen of Hastinapur. It talks about her life in all its glory and failures, her choices and regrets, and the way she affected everybody’s lives around her.
Satyavati was a shrewd woman, manipulative, extremely intelligent and cold hearted. This novel describes the real her. The woman she was at heart and what made her the way she was. It should be a must read for all the readers including beginners since it’s written by using simple yet very effective vocabulary. Her existence is narrated beautifully in this novel that tugs at the heart of its readers. The characters in the book are highlighted gracefully, pointing out even the minute details that any other author might have missed out on.

Why you should read this?
We might have heard Mythological stories passed down by our ancestors but our perspective changes once we read the books. This novel is one of such kind where it ropes in abundant knowledge and history into 21st Century where people have no time to read the big scholarly books. With just the right amount of details and picturesque description of the scenery as well as the characters, this book is truly a worthy read.

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t sure about this book because I don’t often read Kannada novels. But this writer is very well known and after I put down this novel couple of days back, I bow down to him 🙌🏻 And considering that this book was published in 2007, I can imagine the kind of uproar it must have caused. .
.
.
Aavarana is a spectacular book that should be a wake up call to all Indians who have been writing false history for generations! I wouldn’t want to summarise the story and spoil the fun for others but I would really urge fellow book lovers to pick this up right now! Let me say this, even though there‘s a lot of fiction in this novel, the historical facts haven’t been tampered with. I would rate it 5/5. (10 if i could) .
.
This book is disturbing yet so utterly beautiful. .

P.S. I think I found my top favourite book of the year!

The Initiation. .

A big thank you to the author for mailing this review copy. .

Imagine living in a parallel world where humans are categorised into three sections based on occupation. Now picture yourself bound within the walls of a city where you don’t have access to even the basic amenities. A world where the higher authorities are unjust towards others. Would you be okay with losing your freedom?
.
.
This story revolves around the life of Drayden, a shy teenager who’s a genius but walks around invisible within the school premises. When his mother is exiled by the authorities, he decides to take part in the greatest game that would give him access to information about his mother. The plot is very well written and executed by the author and he has nailed all the emotions that a human knows and feels.

.
The characters are described with ease and each of them are significant in their own way. I literally finished this novel in just three and a half hours, being completely engrossed in it. It takes you to a different world and it’s a delightful experience! .
.
I would rate this book 5/5.

Quest for Paradise. .

Thank you @shuchiprasad.writer for sending this review copy :) .

Life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies. It’s about suffering, sacrifice and pain. The protagonist in the book is a pretty woman called Ishana who works in a tattoo studio. Being exceptionally good at sketching, she decides to pursue her passion by taking up a job in one of the famous tattoo studio. Hailing from a normal middle class family, her family isn’t supportive of her career. .
.
Ishana also faces a series of sexual abuse since childhood and this book openly talks about the consequences and how most of the parents are not open about addressing the issue. The novel takes us on a roller coaster ride and keeps us curious if there’s any such thing as a happy ending to the story. The characters are minimal and simple. The plot is well written and executed. .
.
I would rate this book 3.8/5.

The Big Switch. .

Do you ever read a book and find the characters similar to you? You end up picturing yourself in their shoes, in their story and lose track of time. This book can relate to many people out there who are unhappy with their lives and are looking for a change. .
.
The protagonist is a 24 year old guy, Keith who works in a 9 to 5 job that disrupts his work life balance. He’s unhappy with his boss, colleagues and his personal life isn’t all rainbows. His girlfriend dumps him and his pay doesn’t get any better, leaving him frustrated and angry. He then meets a colleague who turns out to be role model and finds his passion for football but will he ever be a professional player? .
.
As he goes through all the lows in his life, he also discovers his love and talent for writing. Will he find his desired job, play football and also a perfect relationship? The plot is extremely real and honest. The author talks about all the crisis a young adult faces during his initial career. This book has all the solutions to keep us happy. From how to deal with a mean boss to chasing our ambitions, it has it all.
.
.
If you ever feel the need to take control of your life and turn it into something beautiful, then do get this book :) It’s well executed and very refreshing. .
.
I would rate it 5/5.

Sniper’s eye. .
.
Thank you Writersmelon for sending this review copy! .

Spy novels come and go but only few make it big. Well, this book did it for me. The protagonist is a young man called Aaditya Ghosh who has a dark past when he worked for the Army. His new world comes crumbling down when his past catches up with him. When he discovers that a sniper wants him dead, he has to figure out why. The story gets interesting as a series of secrets unfurl. The plot is refreshing and has been very well executed. It’s hard to narrate a spy novel by keeping the readers engrossed but this book had it all. .
.
It talks about betrayals and politics within the police system. The ugliness of terrorism and also about the country’s relationships with the Afghans and Pakistanis. It has its own twists and turns that kept me hooked till the last page.
.
.
Will Aaditya survive and leave it all behind? Or will his world fall into pieces? Why don’t you pick up this book and see for yourself? :).

I would rate this book 4/5.

The Moor. .
.
I would like to thank the author for sending this review copy :) .
.
I loved this book. It’s mysterious, intense and also has a tinge of horror to it. It has been a while since I last read a book of this genre and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There’s no single protagonist in this story. It instead revolves around a bunch of friends how filing themselves to be part of a haunted moor. .
.
Rutmoor is haunted or that’s what the rumours say. Families and teenagers vanish out of thin air and no bodies are found. When teenagers accompanied by their teacher go for a hiking expedition in Rutmoor, one by one they start disappearing. As two friends try to unlock the mystery behind the disappearances they come face to face with the reason. Is the Moor really haunted? or is it just a myth to spook the children? .
.
There are a whole lot of twists and turns in this book and it kept me hooked till the very end. The last chapter brought the entire book together in a very unexpected way. .
.
The plot is so well written and executed that I felt like reading R.L. Stine’s work :) I would rate this book 4.3/5.

Tarikshir.
.
.
Thank you @writersmelon for sending this review copy!
.
.
The prologue of this book is chilling and keeps you hooked to the story. Tarikshir, a monster who dates back to the Ram - Ravan era, is always on the lookout for a new host. After giving a glimpse of Tarikshir in the initial few pages, the story somehow slows down a bit. When the King of Devangarh dies under mysterious circumstances, the entire responsibility of the Kingdom, comes on his son’s shoulders. Prince Rudra, who is the protagonist, tries to figure out who killed his father and also to keep the British at bay. .
.
The story has an aura of mystery around it and makes you guess multiple times about who the King’s murderer might be. As the plot thickens, Rudra finds himself in a situation where he cannot trust his own advisors. The characters are well written though there was an unnecessary need of a love angle in the story. As you reach the end of the story, you will wonder if Tarikshir will awake or will Rudra curb its existence and save the world? The story is fresh and unique, the vocabulary is easy and even the plot is well written. Though I had to push myself to finish this book in the middle, I do wonder if Rudra’s character could have been more stronger and well developed. This being the author’s debut novel, the hold over the story and language is commendable!

I would rate this book 3.5/5.
