Thoughts: 

• I think I prefer the Octopus pov more than Tovas 😭
• Ethan perhaps Cameron’s dad? Keep Cindy in mind 
• I’m beginning to not like cam… and tbh what is with all these side stories I just wanna know about the lady and her octopus  
• Okay so I bet tova is Cameron’s grandma… it seems like Erik fucked his mom probs knocked her up and then ended up dying at sea and the girl just ran off bc she didn’t know 
• The fact that Marcellus cares so much about tovas heart and her well being 😭
• I ship Ethan and Tova so hard why can’t they just beeeee together 
• Terry saying there’s always a place for her at the aquarium 😭
• NOT MARCELLUS GOING INTO THE EEL TANK 
• I bet the woman Avery “talked down” was Daphne 
• Very cute ending

Thoughts: 

A book involving murder and toxic friendships 😏

The novel follows Emily and her friend Kristen as their backpacking trip has deadly consequences… 

From the get go Kristen gave me Alex DeLaurentis vibes from pretty little liars she was having impulsive manipulative thought from the jump… Not a good sign. Her obsessive tendencies really shines through from start to finish- at first I thought she was a closeted lesbian and liked Emily- (especially with what happened with Jamie)…but I was so wrong. She was a master at gaslighting, I really felt bad for Emily. 
I got the ick from the almost “cool girl” style monologue… come on now you can’t do what gone girl did. 
Overall I was just flabbergasted and how crazyyyy Kristen was… I was screaming for Emily to plz get out of there girl. But emily was sadly a pushover and naïve. I feel like even though there were shocks I wasn’t like blown away by anything. It would have been really fun if Aaron happened to be like an undercover FBI/CIA agent or something 

I just feel like this book could’ve been shorter. It kind of drags on and just rehashes the same thing and the ending just kept me saying why over and over again. 

I feel like this overall would have made a much better movie than a book which I rarely say.

To preface this review, I wanted to read this book before the new season of the show comes out in May. I love Colin’s character in the books, charming and funny he is genuinely one of my favorite brothers IN THE BOOKS. In the show they have written him terribly thus far. In the book Penelope has hardly been touched on, but in the show I genuinely dislike her so much. I am NOT looking forward to the next season of the show, but I’m hoping this book will change that.

Thoughts: 

• Not Penelope dragging her own dresses in the whistle down papers she probs hoped her mom would step it up 
• Pen honestly probs just likes Colin bc he’s the only guy that’s been nice to her… 
• This was in the last season but I loved when pen popped off at Colin when he said he would never Mary her 
• Anthony has me screaming I love him yes escort her homeee
• In the show pen doesn’t have a younger sister, idk how they are going to do this plot line of her mom trying to match make her younger sister and Colin? 
• I love Eloise she’s so quick witted 
• The fact that she keeps bring up she’s 28 reminds me of pride and prejudice so much 
• They say pen is so shocking bc her thoughts are so modern… but is that supposed to make me like her more? I think that’s supposed to be a hook for the audience but it doesn’t make her any more interesting to me lmao
• Lady Danberry is my queennn
• This plot point also seems flawed. $1000 who catches lady wisteldown (I know I’m complaining it to the show a lot bare with me) but last season Eloise was working with THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND to unmask whistle down lmao this has no competition. 
• Okayyyy if they are about to dance in the fucking rain that’s something I could get behind…..
• One thing julia Quinn always does right is banter it’s so good✅
• ELOISE REFUSED 6 MARRIAGE OFFERS JSSKSK I CANT WAIT FOR HER SEASON 
• This book is trying to make you think whistledown is Colin but it has already been spoiled who it is in the show so I’m just moot to that plot point 
• Not pen about to read Colin’s private journal now girl you know this is a bad idea 
• Colin has anger issues and is so unbelievably childish lmao which is honestly sad bc I loved his character in the book series up until this point 
• NOT PEN ASKING COLIN TO KISS HER WTF IS SHE DOING 😭

• Lady whistle down “retiring” I’m sure will be short lived considering how many more books in the series there are

• This is my least favorite book so far in the series it just feels so rushed and forced and how the hell is that after the characters have known eachother for so long 
• The scene of Colin visiting Daphne is so cute I’m honestly sad she won’t be on season 3 idk why they wouldn’t ask her

• One thing Julia Quinn knows how to do is write a romantic sex scene

• the ending was Kinda crazy and made me cry? Like unrealistic but a true happy ending lmao interested to see what they do in the show

Thoughts: 

Overall I loved Chu’s competitiveness, determination, and her like need to be better than what her brother could have been. Greatness is her fate because that’s what she deserves SLAYYY QUEEN!

The change in perspectives felt very abrupt, but over all I like the dimension it gave the story! I really liked Ma (the first kiss between them…so so cute). 

The imagery Shelley was able to create is so disgustingly good like I’m grossed out at the fight scenes gore and that’s really hard to do in writing!! 

It’s been extremely difficult for me to keep track of all the characters it’s very similar to game of thrones where they throw them all at you and hope your remember them LOL  The writing style is also very different then the normal book I usually gravitate towards so it’s been hard to get into, I’ve had to listen to the audio book more than actually reading it because I need to be doing things and retaining the story 

Other thoughts I had ~including spoilers~

• The fight between Chu and the eunuch was so good…
• I really shipped Chu at the monastery with her guy friend that she calls big brother LMAO and the fact that after the eunuch cuts off chu’s hand and he was with her the entirety of that time in the wagon or carrying her just melts my heart a little bit. Like I know Chu is married to Ma… but idkkk
• IM ABOUT TO CRY HIM SAYING HED KILL THE DOCTOR THAT REVIVED CHU IF SHE WANTED HIM TO BC THE DR FOUND OUT CHUS A WOMAN I AM TEARING UPPP 
• Ma and Chu getting it on 👀😳
• 5 FINGERS?!?!?!? WHAT TO THE WRIST
• CHU KILLING THE PRIME MINISTER 😮
• The Prince saying he loved the eunuch more than his own brother 😭

The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont

Thoughts: 

• Has an amazing hook really reeled me in 
• Tell me why I love this Finbarr mini story 
• I’m not sure why the mistress is with Archie bc you can tell she doesn’t even like him lmao
• I hate the whole Agatha taking with Finbarr and Archie with Nan ordeal like just get with your people and stay away from others like is it hard 😭
• Nan is crazy but like… understandably crazy with all the stuff she went through? Like I wish it wasn’t the 20s and she could be properly evaluated psychotically
• This story just kind of drags, like I find myself checking my phone every few pages to have a break, and that’s not usually the case when I’m fully immersed in a book. 
• The whole prospect of the “age of disappearing women” is so sad and sobering

Overall the book had a very slow pace, I almost preferred the flashbacks of Ireland more than the main current story line. There were some shocks but nothing too jaw dropping. Fun for bookclub, but nothing I would reread.

Best Romcom I’ve Read in a while. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Loved every minute poured into this book & already want to reread.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

Overall I love that this author wanted to base the story off of old Persian fairytales! It’s so unique, and really reflected with the Dives (pronounced deeves; meaning demon) and the Pirkis (pah-riks; meaning witches or ones with magic). 

I really liked the relationship transformation between Soraya and her mother. From Soraya having resentment and distrusting her mother to the end where they would do anything for each other is really special. 

Melissa really hooked me though with the leading man; all he had to do was tell her she was ‘his favorite story’ and fought her longtime bully… I fell. I found myself trying to excuse his scary behavior later because he got to me in the beginning LOL. I will say the LGBTQ+ angle with Parvonee was very cute, but I couldn’t ship it in the same way </3

Final thoughts: I really liked all the twists and turns and I rode an emotional rollercoaster 😅 I would’ve loved it more if it was angled at a more mature audience. I feel like this was Pg-13 but the fight scenes and a little spice would’ve bumped my rating up a lot more. ❤️

Overall I enjoyed it and the riff the author played on where she imagined the trilogy going. All of it was speculative so I gave it a lower rating for the sake of Suzanne. I don’t know if she would’ve done exactly what the author chose, but in a general sense it was fun to imagine.

• the first kiss experience is so cute I could scream 
• HAYMITCH FREAKING OUT WHEN KATNISS SAYS SHE DOESNT WANT KIDS IM LAUGHING IM DEAD DKSKSK
• I’m about to cry at Katniss not wanting kids I’m so glad I know they end up having them jsksksk 
• I wish the author expanded more on her relationship with Haymitch. It feels really brushed over and handed off when he was basically her father figure through the games. I would’ve liked to see more from that angle
• Mirroring this I wish the author would’ve had Katniss’ mom stay in district 12 as a doctor. It could’ve helped the relationship idk. 
• Katniss speaking up and being the mockingjay when everything is in chaos… she may not like it but she’s a born leader and ppl listen to her 
• Peeta crying because Katniss said that she wanted kids I’m tearing up 
• Haymitch is such a father figure for Katniss is something happens to him I will be ruined
• Omfg all of dietetic twelve coming in to refuse the weapons how iconic 
• Haymitch spending years knitting with Katniss after the games and the whole time he was making a baby blanket I’m tearing up

• This book already promising to change my life
• The audio book readers are so good… it’s Like Josh hunterson talking to Dumbledore 😭
• I really love the discourse between the young man and the philosopher but idk if this book is “changing my life” it’s definitely more of a philosophical and psychological theory put into frame of two people discussing their views on life so it’s easily digestible, not sure if there’s actually a plot or story to it, but I enjoy listening to them. It’s similar to a podcast in my eyes then a book. 
• Josh Hutcherson character LOL the fact that he can’t find one thing he likes about himself… he just wants praise at this point.
• I don’t think I have heard the word inferiority or courage more used ever
• The mentor calling him an irreplaceable friend when they are basically just acquaintances I’m dead 
• We aren’t living life to service others expectations… I don’t know if I agree with all that. 
• I don’t like the concept of separation of tasks, like shouldn’t you aid your children to help them succeed? That’s the same with friends or colleagues? You don’t want to see them fail… I don’t know if I agree with Adlerian psychology 
• I agree so much more with this kid than with this teacher
• Life is meaningless. Yup.
