Anyone looking for a super fast paced medical thriller written by an actual ER Doc, who also happens to be Canadian? Yes, well look no further! Lost Immunity had me hooked from the first page! I read this book in two days, and that never happens.
Living in a post-Covid world, Dr. Lisa Dyer, Public Health Officer for Seattle, is dealing with a meningitis outbreak. Luckily there’s a new vaccine available, that has gone through the first three stages of testing and is about ready to be tested in the real world, or is it? This book shows all three sides of dealing with an outbreak of this magnitude; the health authorities, pharmaceutical companies and the vaccine hesitant (aka anti-vaxxers). So when problems start showing themselves in a few of the vaccinated, what is Dr. Dyer supposed to do, and who is she supposed to trust?
I loved this book! But I’ll give you fair warning, there are definite similarities to our current Covid world, so I understand how this couldn’t be for everyone. But needless to say I am here for it, and will now be working my way through Daniel’s backlist!

This was probably one of my most anticipated reads that I had on my shelf, so I did what anyone would do and picked it as a book club book! While I loved the whole mythology story, it started out with me wishing I knew more to start, but that feeling fades as the story goes on! And boy does the story go on! I feel like Circe at one point or another crossed paths with every mythological being that's ever been mentioned, so therefore I found it a bit "piecemeally". I understand that there was a lot to go through, but it just came across as, Circe did this with the person, then did that with this other person, then something happened with this person... so I didn't really find it all that flowing I guess you could say for lack of a better word. But I did enjoy it, and we'll definitely be adding Song of Achilles to my list!

Well well well, Hannah Mary is back, okay, she never left, but man-o-man, she just keeps bringing it! This beaut, I listened to an audio version, and highly recommend btw! The story starts with a man waking up on the beach not remembering what happened or who he is; a woman who’s boyfriend doesn’t show up in the morning when he’s supposed to; and a step-sister that can’t believe her missing brother has just shown up in their home town. Let that sink in, I’m sure you can tell that, yes, they’re all tied together. Now how they’re all related well I’ll let you read the book to find out. But the way this is written from each point of view is so addictive and definitely keeps you hooked and need to know “what is going on?”, yes I said those words out-loud a few times throughout (in a good way of course)! I love when the audio has different narrators for each person, and these ones suited the characters so well! So go pick up this amazing book or listen to it, and enjoy the heck out of it!

Lucky is a bit down on her luck one might say, she’s just had her boyfriend ditch her in Vegas and has taken all their money. Her dad’s in prison, and she has zero people left in her life that she can trust. And to top it all off, she’s wanted all over the country for embezzlement and fraud. But there’s more... she has a winning lottery ticket that could make all her problems go away, but honestly how could she cash it without getting caught?
This book follows Lucky throughout her life, going between current day, and throughout her past so we see how she got into her current situation. I liked going through the different timelines and then having them meet up. I also really enjoyed how it all came together at the end. Lucky is a fast paced “quick read” that keeps you guessing how she’ll figure everything out until the very end! I recommend if you’re into strong independent female protagonists, or love a good underdog story! Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for this E-ARC.

I'm really enjoying this series. I've been listening to the audiobooks and I love that it's the same narrator; she does a really good job! This book you finally get to see who Maxim chooses as his bride to be, and let me tell you the drama doesn't let up. There's one part that was quite shocking, that I did not see coming, but I'm keeping my mouth shut on it, and just can't wait to see where this goes now!

What can I say about Gutter Child that hasn't already been said. This book doesn't just touch on things that need to be mentioned, it shows you how much the race vs society status situation is prevalent, not just in this "dystopian" novel, but in our world too.  Elimina, a Gutter Child by birth, grows up on the mainland only to be put into an academy when her adoptive mother passes away. It is there in this academy, that she learns that all Gutter Children have a debt that needs to be paid off and that she'll probably work her whole life doing so, without even given a chance to live a normal life. From then she learns the the cruelness of the world and how her life has been pretty much been arranged for her, and how it will be set in the future. When Elimina makes some decisions to try to live her life her way, well you'll have to read the book to find out what happens! I'm very excited that there's going to be a sequel because I need more of Elimina and her strong sense of worth!

4.5* Backman does it again. With how much I enjoyed Bear Town, I knew I had to read (listen to) this one as well. I enjoyed this just as much! It follows people throughout the town after the fallout that happens in the book Bear Town, this time a politician is trying to save the Bear Town Hockey Club, but do we really trust him? Tons of stories to follow again, but Backman is a master at it. Add in heartbreak, renewed and broken friendships, family drama, and you have another banger of a book! I definitely need to keep reading/listening to more of Backman's books!

Well well well... Pretty sure everyone by now knows this book has a huge twist at the end... and I'm not here to tell you any different. I read this book, knowing there was this big change, and also knowing it pissed a bunch of people off, like a bunch! So the whole time reading this book, I was racking my brain trying to figure what it could end up being... to no avail. If anyone ever guessed the end of this, kudos to you, can you now tell me the next lottery numbers please.
I really liked this book, the story told between the two female leads, and the mysterious triangle that forms with them and the husband of one. There's some creepy unexplainable things that happen, but boy does it keep you guessing who's telling the truth, and why are they, the way they are! I'd recommend this if you're into mindf*cks... Now I'm wanting to watch the show just to see how they'll tell this story and if I'll be able to tell what's going on, now knowing what's going on...

It's Harry Potter, of course it gets 5 stars. Don't think this needs an actual review, so this is all you get. ha!

Quick Take: I listened to this one, and really enjoyed. The story flowed perfect, it had plenty of backstory, and the world that Stephanie created was amazing. This book is what I'm calling a darker side of fantasy and Carnival! There's game play, magic, family drama, and some romantic feelings... Oh la la! The ending is left with a twist, so obviously I need to keep reading/listening to this series! Recommend... if you're into anything I listed above. ;-)
