Reader, I Murdered Him by Betsy Cornwell

I forgot to properly review this when I initially read it, I am giving it 2/5 stars. while I enjoyed the murder/sapphic romance part of text, as well as the the mystery part of the plot, however, I found in certain parts the story it droned on. I also found the way Cornwell connected Jane and Bertha to Bronte's novel to be a bit disconnected. Like she hadn't read the full thing. I know Alice is not fully a part of the story for long in the original text, however, Cornwell might have done well to do a bit more research on the text (and time period). Overall, it was an alright novel.

I initially picked up this book because I had seen it online and had read the summary on the back while at the bookstore. Maybe it's because of my knowledge in Victorian Literature and Culture that drew me to this book, however, I found it to be a bit of a drab. I DNF'd in as I found it just wasn't written well.

I recently got this book a few days ago and I haven’t been able to put it down! As a long time Criminal Minds fan, this book kept me absolutely intrigued until the very end! I will definitely be reading the series!

There are truly no words to describe what I am feeling from finishing this novel. Rebecca Ross has left my heart strings split in two! My mind is whirling, trying to find the words to describe what I am experiencing upon finishing this incredible book. I haven't been captivated by a novel such as this in a few years. Ross truly captures the essence and emotions that are grief, anxiety, distrust, disgust, fear, and love. Ross does exceptional in giving us readers not only the good kind of anxiety you get from reading, but also the feeling of "what next" holds true throughout. I must admit, I would have liked to have seen more of a friendship between Prindle and Iris, but also I would have liked to have seen the way that Nan would have taken to Iris. Perhaps in the sequel. I cannot wait for Ruthless Vows (I've already had it on pre-order for a month!)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Where do I begin with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo? While the story surrounding Evelyn Hugo and her many husbands is of interest, the main plot of her being a Bisexual Woman is the main focus. Or so it was supposed to be. The bisexual representation within the book could have been a bit more. I found that while reading Evelyn’s story was good for being set in the 20th century. However, I didn’t like that Evelyn had to basically dumb her heritage down and who she is as a Latina woman because otherwise she’d be ostracized. I loved how sassy and real she was with her words during some parts, but I also think Monique could have had more of a story line. Like I know the story is about Evelyn, but I think Monique should have had more of a story line. I do like how she fought for Bisexual Representation, however, Reid does fall into the trap as some do where they kill the 2SLGBTQ+ character(s). It was unsettling to say the least. One thing to highlight is the way that Evelyn doesn’t truly take accountability for any of her actions, and if she doesn’t, it’s for Celia; which I guess is because she loves her, but even so. Even at the end, after she tells Monique about her father, and the way that she ends her life, it just seemed like a cop out. I wish there was just better representation all around.

In the words of Dr. Taylor Swift, this book was sad, beautiful, tragic.

absolutely enthralling

Ross has done it again, I impatiently awaited the day Ruthless Vows published and I devoured it in a matter of days. Iris and Roman’s story is as amazing as when I began Divine Rivals back in October. I won’t give any spoilers, but just be prepared for a lot of emotions!
