I really enjoyed the author's debut novel, and I think I might like this one even more!

High school senior, Brooke, is so close to escaping her hometown and the memories of a party gone awry at her parent's lake house. With her acceptance into Yale she's one step closer to leaving it all behind. Too bad someone else desperately wants Brooke to remember what really happened the night her ex-best friend, Claire, died. After months of harassing calls and vague threats, Brooke's stalker is demanding her confession, or she might not survive the night.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced and twisty thriller! This is high school pettiness at it's finest, and I loved every second of it. Even though these characters are definitely extreme examples, I thought the author did a great job of showcasing how tumultuous friendships can be at this age. Everything feels so high stakes it can cause two people to be best friends one second, and sworn enemies the next.

I love that the author chose to tell the story from Brooke's perspective. This was one of the best uses of the unreliable narrator that I've read in a long time. The way Brooke's character and intentions were revealed over the course of the story was masterful. We see from the beginning that Brooke is a bit of a spoiled, rich girl, but she's also under enormous pressure from her parents, and she clearly cares about her friends, which creates this confusing dynamic.

There were some other plot points that were maybe a little predictable, but this is where I think the story's fast pacing does it some favors, because the reader doesn't have to wait too long to find out if their predictions were correct.

Megan Lally is 2/2, I will read anything she writes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, SourceBooks Fire, for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved the atmosphere of this book- perfect for December! I will admit that I don’t know a lot about ballet, but that didn’t hinder my enjoyment of this book! I particularly liked the way the author told the story- weaving the past and present together and slowly revealing what lead to the FMC’s accident. This book has a little bit slower paced than I typically prefer to read, but I really enjoyed all of the FMC’s character development and growth!

I will admit that I was quite skeptical of all the good reviews I’ve seen for this book, but I am happy to say that it deserves all of the hype it’s received and then some! I loved everything about this book! It’s not often that a book can make me literally laugh out loud and shed a tear. The author did an excellent job of portraying depression, grief, and the kind of isolation I think a lot of people felt during the pandemic. There were some lines that hit a little too close to home, lol. But there were also some really beautiful writing that reminded me why I love to read so much. Infinite stars for what very well may be my favorite book of the year.

Things are starting to heat up! I am so hyped to read Wind and Truth after finishing this. I really enjoyed the way the world is expanding and elements from other cosmere books are starting to show up. Though I will admit that Navani isn’t really my favorite character and I personally was more invested in Shallan’s story in this one. There were a few elements of the magic/science that started to feel a little bit confusing, but I’m willing to just roll with it 😅

I was intrigued by the idea of a Christmas thriller, and this did not disappoint! I only wish that there had been more of the diary entries as that was where the majority of the suspense was in the book. But this was the perfect quick read to pick up during a very busy time of year.
