I don't know how B.K. Borison does it, but I swear every book in this series has been better than the last. I've been waiting for Layla's story since we heard that she had a lackluster boyfriend in the first book. I just knew that the author was going to give her a man who made her the center of his world, and I was not disappointed! Caleb is such a sweet, angel baby, and I just loved how he was so patient with Layla and determined to give her everything she deserved.
I also really appreciated how the author wrote about Layla's problem with *finishing*. Layla isn't just magically able to *finish* now that she's with Caleb, but rather Caleb is the first man to actually ask her what she needs and wait for her to figure it out. This is a distinction that is so important to me, because the implication isn't just that Caleb is magically better at sex than every other partner that she's had, it's that he's better because he listens to his partner and actively seeks out her pleasure. Lol, I didn't mean to get on my soapbox about this, and it's such a small thing, but if I'm reading a spicy book this is the kind of healthy depiction of sex that I want to be reading.
I loved this book and I can't wait to read the last one in the series <3

Has there ever been a more perfect grumpy, cinnamon roll of a man than Beckett Porter? No, I don't think so. lol
I really enjoyed this book! I found the dynamic between Evelyn and Becket to be such a breath of fresh air. I loved how they were both so considerate of the other's needs, and how Beckett was so invested in Evelyn finding her happy again. I also appreciated how Beckett having a hard time with loud noises and crowds was presented. That and Evelyn's struggle with burnout added another layer of complexity to the characters that I wasn't expecting but greatly enjoyed.
I fear that the ending had just a touch too much miscommunication for me, but otherwise this was a fantastic follow up to Lovelight Farms.

This was such a sweet love story! I'll admit that friends-to-lovers has never been my favorite trope, but I thought this one was well done. I did feel like the story was a little slow though, and I think that was in part because I thought the whole social media influencer was going to play a bigger part. I kept waiting for her to show up so the fake dating could really start, lol. But all in all, this was a warm and cozy book, perfect for the holidays.
As the city falls into groups of protesters and counter-protesters, a doorman for The Bohemian, a historic and exclusive apartment building, stands guard, the only line of defense between the chaos on the streets and the wealthy residents inside.
This book ended up being different from what I was expecting, though not necessarily in a bad way. The suspense didn't amp up until the third act, but I did enjoy how everything came together in the end. I think an ending can really make or break a thriller, and this one definitely made it. Suddenly, all of the little details mattered, and there was finally some pay-off for the 250 pages of set-up.
I know some readers were put off by the amount of politics and social commentary in this book, and I agree to an extent. While I do think all of that is central to how the ending unfolds, at a certain point, it does become a little exhausting to read about terrible men thinking terrible thoughts and doing terrible things. I kept reading because I was intrigued by the lives and lies of the characters we were following, and I only wish we had gotten more of that. The premise promises the story of a doorman who is privy to all the secrets of a building and its residents, but I would argue that Chicky Diaz isn't even the main character of this book.
Overall, I did enjoy this book, and I'm interested in reading more by this author!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Consider this the pool read of the summer!
After a very public end to her last relationship, Katie decides she's better off behind the camera and throws herself into her work as a video producer. When a scorned higher-up decides to go scorched earth on the company, Katie has no choice but to take an assignment making a recruiting video for the United States Coast Guard featuring the celeb dog rescuer of the hour, Tom "Hutch" Hutcheson. Her lack of swimming skills may make her the least qualified for the job, but she's determined to make the best of it. However, things become way more complicated as she learns that Hutch is actually her boss' brother and the two do not get along. As Katie gets tangled in a web of lies, she'll have to learn how to be brave and fight for what she wants.
I absolutely adore Katherine Center's writing, and this book is no exception. I sat down with it one evening and devoured it in one sitting. There's just something to be said for a low-stakes, fun romance. Not to say that this book didn't have plenty of drama, but the beauty of romcoms is that you can take comfort in the fact that the couple is going to end up together.
I can only imagine that all of the talk about body image in this book won't be for every reader, but as someone who has always struggled with this and has finally been able to settle in a place of neutrality, I actually enjoyed it. I thought it was a very real portrayal of what it's like to want to dissociate from your body and how hard it can be to let go of old insecurities. However, I did appreciate that Center never actually stated Katie's weight, and that by the end of the book Katie was able to love her body for both what it could do and how it was uniquely hers.
Let this book be your reminder to wear the dang swimsuit this summer. You can be bold and take up space.

I really enjoyed this book! I picked it up after an online friend said my review of Promise Me Sunshine by Cara Bastone reminded her of this book. I knew that Perry mostly wrote romantic suspense, so I was curious to see how she would write a story with a similar premise. While both books center around the FMC completing a list left behind by a loved one who has recently passed with the help of the MMC, I found the execution of them different enough to enjoy them equally, even with having read them so close together.
Poppy's journey through grief was heavy, and the mystery of who killed her husband added plenty of intrigue, so I appreciated that the romance didn't have any extra angst or miscommunication. I loved how Cole always met Poppy where she was, refusing to let her slip away but without ever pushing her. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author!

This book was quite a bit different from what I was expecting. We open with a truly suspenseful and scary scene, following a foreign couple as they are taken by some mysterious being in the lake. I was expecting the rest of the book to have a similar tone, but instead, we switch to an FMC who is more than happy to welcome the presence of a slasher in her hometown. Something about her eagerness to be at the center of a real-life version of one of her favorite movies killed any suspense that there could have been. Though this book is definitely not lacking in the gore department. I also found her inner monologue slightly manic and therefore hard to follow at times, which is arguably intentional, but it made it hard for me to enjoy the book.
In general, I found the story entertaining, and I would be interested to read another book by this author, if only to see if I enjoy his writing more with a different main character.

I honestly had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up, and yet I was still surprised when I realized it was less low-stakes litfic and more action-packed magical realism. Does this count as sci-fi? Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The whole idea of the magical library is definitely one of the most unique things that I've read this year. Things started to get a little hairy toward the end, as most time travel books do, but I still found the story easy enough to follow.
I really enjoyed the FMC and the journey that she goes on. I particularly liked how the main motivation for the majority of her actions is her love for her friend- it was a nice change of pace from a lot of other popular books.

I hadn't heard of this book when I randomly picked it up from my library, but I was in the mood for a twisty thriller, and this delivered! Did I guess the ending pretty early on? Yes. But I read a lot of thrillers, and I'm not sure that most readers would immediately jump to the conclusion that I did. Plus, the author did a good job of making me second-guess myself for basically the entire book.
I recommend this book to fans of unreliable narrators, female rage, revenge, and the exploration of female friendships.

I have been eagerly awaiting Dusty and Cam’s story, and it did not disappoint!
I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance, especially when there’s a dual timeline, but this is one of the better ones that I’ve read this year.
I could have done without the random conflict at about the 90% mark, but other than that, I have no complaints 😌
