Greed is the source of an evil plan that affects the life of Lady Magdalen of Mallin. Her people are starving. She would do anything to help them but the mines that once prospered are empty. Hope arrives in the form of a marriage proposal from the wealthy Duke of Wolfberg. As she travels to meet her husband to-be, she is betrayed by her servants and is forced to become the servant as her maid takes her place. When they arrive at the castle she is forced to tend to the geese. Not used to be in this position, Magdalen loses hope. That is, until she meets the very familiar shepherd named Steffan. She soon discovers that he is the true Duke of Wolfberg and that his evil Uncle has tried to have him killed and replaced by his own son. He discovers that she has been betrayed as well. Together, they have to find proof of the uncle's treachery and the Duke's true identity. In the meantime, they are both humbled by their temporary social stations and use it to their advantage. During their time trying to find a way to get their lives back, they both discover that what they have been looking for was each other.
This fairy-tale retelling of the goose girl is enchanting. Not only are Magdalen and Steffan are threatened and almost killed but they are forced to serve those who betrayed them. They are able to use their humbling situation and learn from it and together find a way to overcome it. Working together, they see each other for who they truly are and fall madly in love with each other. They also learn much about themselves. Another enjoyable read from Melanie Dickerson!

This was my first paranormal/fantasy read. It was definitely gripping!!
Where do I even start?! This is the book that every mom should read. Did I see should? I meant NEED to read!
The book introduces Ashley Keller, stay-at-home mom. She has a 8 month old baby girl named Aubrey. Her husband is gone from home pretty often trying to kick start his company. Aubrey is sleep deprived and desperate for a break. However, she sees her perfect sister and friends on Facebook "succeeding" at motherhood and she feels like she is failing. So she signs up for this Motherhood Better boot camp hosted by the celebrity mom blogger Emily Walker. It is a 6 week boot camp that will transform her into a better, more successful mother. Ashley will then try to navigate the world of Pinterest, making mom friends, being a better lover to her husband all while keeping a perfect home and attempting to lose baby weight.
Ashley's hilarious journey isn't what she expects. However, she does learn a lot about herself and motherhood. This is the most relatable book I have ever read. Every mom goes through these stages of trying to adjust to raising a little human. Not only is it hilariously entertaining but it drops so much truth about motherhood. Moms, no matter if they work, stay at home, breastfeed, formula feed etc... will struggle and it is all about supporting one another instead of bringing each other down---which is the whole essence of this wonderful book.

This story goes through the aftermath, of the death of Rupert Falkes. He dies of cancer, leaving behind a grieving widow and 5 sons. Their life is turned upside down when a mysterious woman comes forward saying Rupert Falkes fathered her children and they should be included in the inheritance. This book goes into the history and the dynamics of the Falkes clan.
It was a slow start and they characters a little stiff but the background and family history was intriguing!

This was a decent crime novel. Overall, I enjoyed the characters and their chemistry. The story seemed well developed and I enjoyed the twists as well. There were a few typos and errors which is why it did not receive a perfect score. You can check out my full review on online book club.
I love anything to do with Disney or Beauty and the Beast. When I saw this book, I was unsure. I saw the cover, the beasts eyes are glowing and a tagline that said, "What if Belle's mother cursed the beast?" Intriguing. But I was also skeptical. As I began to read, Liz Braswell, not only captured the magical essence of Beauty and the Beast but added to it.
The story starts out very familiar. We are introduced to a spoiled Prince being cursed by an Enchantress. However, throughout Part 1 of the story, we are thrown back and forth between the present and the past. The present is through Belle's perspective and the past through Maurice's perspective. We meet Belle's mother, Rosalind, a beautiful Enchantress. We are also introduced to new characters and many of them are described as magical people and creatures called Les Charmantes.
The author does a fantastic job at linking the story we love to a cruel but intriguing twist. After part 1 the story changed from the one we know but it is so captivating and refreshing. All the characters make mistakes and make the characters more relatable. I really enjoyed reading this different spin on a beloved classic.

This is by far one of my all time favorite books. The Count of Monte Cristo is the ultimate story of betrayal and revenge. Edmond Dantes is betrayed by 3 men: Villefort, Danglars and Fernand. Because of their actions Edmond was found guilty of being a Bonapartist and was sentenced to prison. Years later, he is able to escape and ultimately plan his revenge on those who ruined his life. However, Edmund Dantes comes to find that his actions of revenge also affect those who are innocent. I can read this story again and again.
The City of Miracles is a fascinating novel about gods, miracles and divinities. Bennett creates an astounding world that revolves around the mysteries of godhood. The main character is an amazingly strong and relatable character. Sigrud seeks revenge after his friend and former operations partner is assassinated. He is then thrust into a secret war of gods and divinities and is so much more than he had anticipated. This novel is truly thought-provoking and should be on everyone's shelf.
Very well researched, but needs to be edited. There are lots of grammar and spelling mistakes. I also would have liked to see more story development. The main character goes through many battles but there was never a climax. There was no goal. It was just the story of the main characters life. If this book was broken up into separate books and given more development it would be phenomenal. I loved the history and the overall story, it just needs editing and development.
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead is a heart-wrenching story about a slave woman named Cora. Cora is a slave on the Randall plantation. She has no family left since her mother ran away years before. She is not only viewed as an object but she is even ostracized by the other slaves around her. Until one day, another slave named Caesar asks Cora to escape with him. They then travel to other states by taking the Underground Railroad. In this book, the Underground is not a series of routes and safe houses but an actual railroad. During Cora's desperate flee to safety she discovers the dangers that await her even off the plantation.
This book was such an emotional, thought provoking read. This was such a raw take of the horrors of slavery. I recommend that everyone read this book. This is an awful part of our history that we can't forget.
