Where do I begin?
This book is by far my favourite out of the Heroes of Olympus series.
Character development and plot development is abundant throughout the story and Rick Riordan does it in a way so well that it doesn't feel forced or fake.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent

Burial Rites tells the true story of Agnes Magnusdottir, who was accused of murder, and was the last person in Iceland to be executed.

Burial Rites has two storylines: one is the preparation of her execution, and the other is what lead her to murdering Natan Ketilson.

If it was just the story of the preparation, I would have stopped reading, but I was so intrigued with the motives so I continued reading.

Hannah Kent writes so superbly, and I feel like i focused more on the writing than on the actual story, but there were some bits that i read without taking in any meaning which was a bit iffy for me, because I had to go back and re read the scene again.

It was a great read!
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

I couldn't put this down.

Passenger is such an intriguing story, right from the first page.

Nicholas and Etta are such well-rounded, well written, believable, and simply awesome characters. I loved the dynamic between the two of them, and they are such interesting characters. I'm just- Ahhhhhh. Sophia is such a cool character too, and I can't wait to see more of her.
*crosses fingers for a redemption arc*

I'm not usually so invested in the plot of a story, because it's just a situation that propels the characters in their journey, just something to get the story going, if that makes sense. I'm more interested in the character's reaction to the series of events. Passenger is different. The plot one of the most interesting things about this story, propelling our characters in and out of time in order to find an object that could cause serious damage in the wrong hands. (Theres something so adventurous about hide and seek stories, dont you think?)

I loved the writing, as well. I loved how Bracken wrote the internal thoughts of the characters, and it was just so nicely written.

omg tho, when etta was on the pirate ship, all i could think about was the pirates of the caribbean self insert fanfics i used to read when i was 12. So nostalgic
Across a Bridge of Dreams by Lesley Downer

Across a Bridge of Dreams is just as much about war as it is romance.

The backdrop of the Satsuma Rebellion provided an interesting and entertaining addition to the drama of the story, providing a forbidden love between our two main characters, Nobu and Taka. I liked the dynamic between these two, but I feel like I would have liked it more if their characters were better developed.

The main issue I have with this book is that most of the characters fell a bit short of personality for me. The only character I feel had a developed personality was Eijiro. Everyone else was bland and boring. I also feel like the romance was developed weirdly as well.

Lesley Downer's writing is amazing. It's so poetic and brilliant I found myself a bit envious of her skills. I think if I get the chance to I might read another one of her books.

Oh, and as an afterthought, I didn't like the binding on this book. The pages were really thick and it was hard to open, and really heavy. It didn't change my perception of the novel, but I found it to be a bit of an annoyance.
