The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
5.0
4.5 ⭐
This short book took me on an intense journey into the complexities of mental health and societal pressures. The protagonist's struggle and obsession with the yellow wallpaper created a haunting atmosphere that lingered with me. The exploration of gender roles added a personal resonance to the narrative. Despite some slow pacing, the deliberate approach heightened the impact for me. This book is a powerful, thought-provoking experience, and I easily give it 4.5 stars.

I recently delved into "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern and found myself captivated by the enchanting atmosphere and diverse characters. The novel took its time meticulously crafting a magical world that felt both ethereal and immersive. While it may not be as plot-driven as some might prefer, the beauty lies in the atmospheric vibes that sweep you away. I'd rate it 3.7 stars for its unique charm and the intricate tapestry of characters that make the journey truly magical.

Red Rising took me on a tumultuous ride that nearly lost me at 45%, but its second half managed to salvage the experience. The initial struggle to engage was worth enduring as the narrative gained momentum and depth. Despite my reservations, I plan to delve into the second book, intrigued by the potential for redemption in this dystopian world.

Beartown by Fredrik Backman

A captivating book that expertly navigates sensitive topics while drawing you into the lives of its richly developed characters. Set in a small, hockey-obsessed town, the story explores themes of loyalty, ambition, and the complexities of human nature. Backman's skillful portrayal of multidimensional characters and his sensitive handling of difficult subjects make this novel a compelling and thought-provoking read. With its poignant narrative and powerful message of resilience, "Beartown" is an unforgettable journey into the heart of a community facing adversity.
Morgan Is My Name by Sophie Keetch

4.5 ⭐
Beautifully written novel that effortlessly captivates from start to finish. The characters are richly developed, and the prose flows smoothly, making for an engaging and quick read. One of the book's strengths lies in its refusal to rely on explicit violence or smut to drive the narrative, allowing the story to shine through its compelling characters and plot.
What sets this novel apart is its portrayal of a strong female character who defies traditional tropes and expectations. Keetch skillfully avoids clichés, crafting a protagonist who is both relatable and inspiring. While there were moments of fatigue midway through the book as Morgan experiences intense emotions, this was fleeting and did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.
Morgan Is My Name is a testament to resilience and strength, offering a refreshing take on the journey of self-discovery and empowerment. I'll definitely be picking up the second book when it releases.

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Solid 4.5 ⭐
I've only very recently decided to start reading romance novels, Jane Eyre being my first a couple of weeks ago, and I loved this book.
I never rolled my eyes, I was on the verge of tears a couple of times, and Emily made me care about all the characters. I maybe could've done with a little less Mom/family drama, but I think overall it was used well.
Can't wait to read another of a Emily's books.

Even though the book wanted to say something big, I think it delivered more in "vibes" and cozyness and I enjoyed it for that. It really was adorable and I absolutely would love a Mosscap in my life. In some ways I empathised with Dex, I think many of us feel like that at some stage in our lives. I think I'll read the second book for the vibes and the endearing robot. I think the world was a tad too perfect, but it helped drive the message the author was trying to get across.

I listened to the audiobook and could've done with about 4 hours less audio just because everything felt over-explained and over-embellished. MC has super long inner dialogues - like we get it Darrow, move on! Listened at around 1.3 speed because it caused me fatigue and I didn't want to DNF so far in. The side characters are great, politics interesting enough, and the ending is good, but I would've loved a little less drama and a little more world building and bit more momentum.
