Even if you know nothing about chess, don't worry about it and don't let that put you off of reading or listening to the book.

I feel the book could've been edited down quite a bit - some scenes feel drawn out and there is a lot of repetition, but the writing is still beautiful. I found the darkness an enticing character (would've loved more villainous stuff, maybe then I'd forgive the book's length), more interesting than Addie or Henry, even though I still felt some pull toward Henry. Even though Addie's the main girl, I didn't like her too much as a character and didn't enjoy her selfishness in the end.

I feel it's closer to a 2.5, than a 3 ⭐, but I'll leave it at a 3.
Started off strong, but almost a DNF (wish I did though - maybe I'm just in a mood..?

3 to 4 ⭐ (haven't decided yet)
I enjoyed the book for what it offered and I had no expectations. The characters aren't always too believable and some circumstances are possibly too convenient, but I needed something that required no braincells

One of those books you don't want to continue reading because you know it'll eventually end. Currently busy with the second book and it's just as good. Listening to the audiobooks and highly recommend - the narrator's voice acting is fantastic and makes it easy to follow all the characters.
