This story picks up with our MC, Ethan "Critter Critelli settled into Arcane Acres, having figured out a cure to the hexed enchanted creatures, he's still got a bit of work to do to remove the Hexes for all of them. Add to that the strange eruptions of wild arcane magic, the Wizards from the tower and the dragons under the mountain getting sicker, under the Dwarven enslavement and this book is filled with action and adventure.
While I really enjoyed this book, it was less slice of life and more action adventure, with a dash of a heist. I enjoyed this very much and have already bought the third book, but will likely wait it it's out on audio to dive in.
If you enjoy a morally pure hero, unswayed by temptation of ultimate power, driven instead by empathy and a love of all animals, I highly recommend this series.

Bunny and Sidnee are back from the NoMo Academy but they barely have time to catch up on the happenings in Portlock, before they're called out to the local mine to investigate a suspicious death.
This book has all my favorite Portlockian characters and introduces a few more. We get introduced to the grumpy and insular dwarves, with their interesting traditions and the child like earth elemental Hag with a thirst for sweets, who the Dwarves blame for all of the ills currently befalling them. It's up to Bunny and the team to figure out what's really going on and put a stop to it.
As usual, the mystery was on point, interesting with twists I did not see coming and the dialogue was a delight. This is such a fun series, I hope these authors team up for many more series to come (other NoMo offices probably have issues too, no?)
I totally and enthusiastically recommend this series and this will be book I reread, for sure.

Ethan Critelli (aka Critter) just passed his veterinary exam when I portal opens in front of him and pulls him in. On the other side is a sick Griffin and a sorcerer named Kazian. When Kazian is killed by other sorcerers, Ethan escapes with a now healed Griffin and a treasure he isn't to touch, so of course, he does. Now Ethan has an AI in his head and magic making him an Arcane Veterinarian. He's welcomed by Kazian's daughter and by the local vet as an apprentice and that's when this story becomes everything All Creatures Great and Small with magic.
Seriously, this was an utter delight. As a fan of both the books and the TV show All Creatures Great and Small, I can't tell you how much this felt like a cozy homage to it. All of the characters are lovely and a the twist in the middle takes the mystery of the village and stands it on its ear. I'm already excited about the next coming out in November.
Highly recommend.

Corin's brother entered the tower five years ago and never came out. It's assumed that he's dead, but Corin doesn't believe it and it planning on saving him. This book begins with Corin in the tower, hoping to gain his own attunement and, ultimately, to save his brother, but it doesn't go quite how he expected.
While this is a detailed and well thought out world, with an intricate and original magic system, there was so much information constantly being dumped, this felt slow and a little tedious to me. I actually tuned out of the audiobook a few times and ended up speeding it up more than normal to finish, because the story was interesting and I wanted to know what happened, I just wanted it to get there faster with less exposition.
I really enjoyed the team Corin builds up, Sera being my favorite and I will likely continue the series later.

Meg and Laurie and the Morrisey residents are stuck indoors during a winter snow storm when they discover a trail of blood in the basement, setting Meg and crew off on a new mystery. Every time I think there can be no more hidden secrets in the building, Meg discovers a new one. I love the cast of found family that surround Meg and Laurie and the sassy detective Amaya.
This is such a fun series, my biggest complaint upon finishing this book is that I have to wait until summer for the next release. These Morrisey Mysteries are just the light, escapist, cozy-mystery fun I need right now. I very much recommend this series for fans of cozy paranormal mysteries, found family, friendly ghosts, cute pets and light closed door romance.

Meg and Laurie and all the residents of the Morrissey are surprised when Meg's Aunt Penny returns for a sudden visit. With her return, Penny brings back the Morrisey Masterpiece Classic scavenger hunt, an annual scavenger hunt that brings the whole building together to compete for the fun of the hunt and a trophy. The fun comes to an end though, when a body is found outside the apartment of Meg's scavenger hunt partner, Apartment 5C.

The Morrisey has a porch pirate, stealing everyone's packages. Meg and Laurie, back in the country for the Thanksgiving Holiday, set out to find the culprit, only to find the thief unconscious on the floor, poisoned by chocolates that were meant for Winnie. Meg sets out to find out who wanted Winnie dead and ends up working in a local haunted theater, where everyone is suspicious.
I love this series. It's just the cozy fun I need in a series right now.

A Secret Staircase by Eryn Scott is the second installment of the Murder at the Morrisey Mystery Series, and a great continuation of the series. I loved the incorporation of hidden passageways between rooms in the first book and now the secret stairway under the building and bits of Prohibition era Seattle was a delightful addition. This was so much fun.
Absolutely recommend for fans of cozy paranormal mysteries.

Delightful and fun cozy paranormal murder mystery. It has an “only murders in the building” vibe, with Ghosts and the backdrop of Seattle. I loved all of the quirky characters, the ghosts and residents of the Morrisey were charming. I have already moved on to book 2.
Highly recommend for fans of cozy mysteries with a great cast of characters, a dash of fantasy and a feline friend.
