The pirate lord: slow, but necessary to set up both sam and rolfe for later use. lets celaena learn she can depend on others

The healer: yrene is such a relatable character– everyone can understand feeling helpless. its crazy that one act of kindness can have such impact

The desert: I have such a love and hate relationship with this story. the relationships seem to go too fast, especially when its only a months worth of in-world time, but at the same time the bonds formed somehow seem real and genuinely hurt later on.

The underworld: really sets up arobyn and lysandra, and builds even further on sam. also helps show how young and arrogant celaena can be. and arobyn can find a very deep well to throw himself down.

The empire: sam :( arobyn >:(

always conflicted where to read this. it is obviously a prequel, but its a hard beginning read. reading it after hof is what ive always done, maybe ill try after com next time.

such a nostalgia blast. and a percect debut novel.

yes there are parts that are a bit heavy handed, but im unsure if its just me picking up on it after multiple reads in the past.

celaena chaol and dorian are so charming and unique, they really made the blueprint for all the new fantasy leads. Nehemia is also incredible, i am still sad we get such a short amount of time with her.

just an all round very good introduction to the world.

i forgot how painful this book is to read. the ending makes me want to scream and cry, and i know its only going to get worse from here.

threads are being found and followed and its so satisfying seing links from the previous 2 books, and links that are guaranteed to be followed up in the subsequent story

this book feels like years and also seconds. it feels like its split into the arobyn arc and the magic arc. the arobyn arc is very human, the magic arc very fae.

The separate arcs happening at the same time are so pleasing, but can be infuriating when quiet is happening in one and action in another.

i adore manon and elides bond. i cant wait for more of lorcan.

Aelin just needs to learn how to trust others with her plans and then we'll be gucci.

shout out to lysandras jeweller, the real MVP

i give this book my first 5 star of the series after being very stingy for the others. i adore this book, as much as it breaks my heart.

elide and lorcan own my entire and soul, and they rip my heart out.

aelins actions through the entire series suddenly connecting is pleasing as it is painful.

the tandem read is also an incredibly satisfying way of reading the story, with events unfolding that completely change the other book. the book also stands perfectly well alone, the storylines and perspectives very compelling.

for being a side quest this book was extremely well written. it built new characters in an effective way in such a small page count compared to the rest of the series.

chaol can be very grating at times, but surprisingly less than i thought he would be. this book has an entirely different feel to the rest of the series and especially during the tandem read it's very effective in showing how different the characters lives are in the two different continents.

i admit there are some things i dislike about this book. some tropes that agitate me, some loose ends that tie up a bit too cleanly. but even that cant stop me from giving this a 5 star.

just an incredible ride from beginning to end, and each and every character and perspective is so rich and captivating (well, almost ever  one of them). i almost cried too many times to count.

i would sell my kidney for an epilogue book, just a peek into the life they all have afterwards, ans how the bad days can still linger despite the happiness they now have.

One of my favourite books I have ever read. It’s not too challenging (except the american politics, which coming from an english perspective is quite confusing) and overall just a light and pleasant read. I could read it over and over again and love it just as much as the second time i read it (nothing ever beats the first read).
