The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom

There is three characters in this book and their story ended up being intertwined with each other. It all makes sense the last few chapters, but from beginning towards 3/4 is just plain boring for me. The moral values I got from reading is that we all should be thankful for our lives and appreciate time more as it is ticking away very fast without us really realizing it.

Their love never ends. It is reunited in some other form. A person died, but continued another.

Dawson's life has been a hell for him but it turns heaven the moment he fell in love with Amanda. She always love and trust him because she sees his potentials and the good in him.

Then something happened and they're forced apart without really ending things between them. After 20 years, Amanda found herself caught in between her existing and her past.

My favourite parts is when Dawson is big enough to stand for himself and tells his dad to stop beating him. How I hate domestic violance! And the very last page containing this sentence "The Best Of Me". Awhhh. It is very heart warming!

And at the end, all is well.
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

First of all, I want to say the title itself is a symbol of how wise Jeannette Walls is, because after all, building the glass castle has been her father's biggest lies that she ever cling on for hope. Thus, choosing "Glass Castle" as a title is obviously such a wise choice.

This memoir is basically about Jeannette Walls and her family journey through thick and thin in life, living as nomads, shifting from one place to another for the sake of continuing to live or finding a place they can called home. I do not want to give any spoilers. So I will be making this review purely based on my thoughts of it. I can say it is a hell of a ride for all of them. As I was reading this, bits of me was cut open and left untreated. I was left with sorrows for days! Even a day after finishing reading this book I am still having this mixed feelings of sad, furious, happy etc. The part that makes me furious was when Dad steals the piggy bank, named Oz. The three siblings work their sweat off for the sake of saving those money! I was so furious that I stopped reading and pick another book to read. (i love the kids so much, I cant bear reading more hurtful things)

Based on a memoir, four siblings must learn to take care of themselves as their responsibility-averse, free-spirit parents both inspire and inhibit them. When sober, the children's brilliant and charismatic father captured their imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Meanwhile, their mother abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn't want to take on the work of raising a family. (made into movie. this is the synopsis)

But at some point in another chapter, I cried when Dad said "if things doesn't workout, you can always come back" when Jeannette finally running after her future. Then, as the story goes on, a lot of things had changed. At one "scene", he gave her what is left in his pocket when she wanted to continue studying in college in New York City.

At the end, Mom had found her purpose of life. I think this is the time she finally freed herself from her depression. They also had their thanksgiving moment just like the way they always wanted but there is someone or something is missing that they will cherished whatever is left and just began.

I am not sure why did I cried at chapter 30 (shine as a parent) and chapter 38 about the funeral. They just hit me in the face or you can say in struck my heart. 3/4 of this book is 100% motivates and inspires me. This book will be among the best reads for those whom are in business and also for those whom want to live a better life.

These are the things I also like from the book.
- "Death is very likely the single best invention in life".
- "If you eat three times a day, you'll be fed. But if you read three times a day you'll be wise".
- Ask yourself "how would I show up today if this day was my last?". Its a profound way to bring some urgency and commitment into your days.
- Investing in learning and getting your skill to world class is the smartest investment you'll ever make.

I listen to the audiobook while reading the physical book itself. It seems like I am in a motivational program! Cheers to the voice narrator!

Boring life? Everything is the same? No new achievements unlocked? Spirits needs to be rekindled? Lack of motivations? Or business going down? Then this book is for you! Before you go down the hill, hold up, steady yourself up and give this book a try!
The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Volume Two: Empire Decayed by Daniel Kraus

Horrifying but sweet, gruesome but beautiful story of Zebulon Aaaron Finch, a rich 17 years old teenager raised perfectly fine by his mother but chosen a different path of life because in my opinion, he’s just plain ignorant. But he sure did learnt his lessons after he was shot down by the shore of Lake Michigan, got mysteriously resurrected to live the rest of his life as a corpse.

He does not eat & drink, does not sleep, bleed & breath, but he have feelings. He stays 17 years old though he lives a decade. He fell in love, became a thug, does odd jobs, went to a different countries, fight in the World War 1, became a movie extra, got involved up by the most controversional woman in Hollywood, became an astronaut, joined the Nazi, become a cult leader. He does EVERYTHING and that is why it makes it irresistable to continue reading!

It took a lot of patience reading this duology not just because both of them are 1413 pages, but the way he talks, oh boy, there is nothing decent coming out from his mouth. As a mother myself, I feel like stuffing chillis in his mouth

The illustrations are raw, honest and beautiful. I enjoyed going through the pages together with my husband and son. We had a good time and it very much explained to my 5 y.o son basically how he got into this world. Its a wonderful experience
