Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score

Sloane and Lucien are insufferable with their lack of communication and grudges from their childhood. However resentful Lucien may seem he is and always was grateful for Sloane and her family. Why it is he never moved on and tried to date someone else after he rebuilt his family name, baffles me in some sorta way. Sloane is just this sweet literary bookworm who loves her small town life but buries her traumas with the biggest one yet, her fathers death. The back and forth, for me at least, was well worth it. I am glad I read it at my own pace and picked it up when I did because I know so many of you didn’t enjoy this book. Lucy Score’s long descriptive writing is fulfilling all my middle school romance feels.

Despite the slight no communication trope between the Isodal twins, I enjoyed the story line. It was definitely a slow build up for the plot, however. The character growth is phenomenal. Ranka learns  through trial and error to always choose herself. Aramis learns that even if she doesn’t have any inherited powers she is a very powerful woman. Galen learns that he doesn’t need to follow up on everyone else's expectations of him. Percy is just the amazing side character who helps them through it all as somewhat as a mentor. The life lessons and splash of betrayal in this book is such a good book for middle schoolers to read and learn from in a non fiction sorta way.

You seriously can't go wrong with a Cara Bastone book, pick one up and tell me I am wrong. This is a quirky romance; childhood friends, to enemies, to lovers. She was sucked into a wormhole, finds a phone, calls the only number in it and Michael Shannon, the boy she threw up on in 3rd grade. These two use their phone to talk to one another and try to figure out how to get her back to her original timeline and through it we meet a few sweet side characters like Mikey’s neighbor and Dr. Einstein. Oh, Mikey also has a dog. 🦮

Freidas book’s are always so easy and enjoyable to read, it always feels like you are watching a mystery movie. When I need a palate cleanser I will always reach for one of her books, way better than a cheesy romcom read. The storyline can be a bit confusing in the beginning if you don’t read the book description like me, but after the first 10% not only are you hooked in but you have a better understanding. I enjoyed this book better than the locked door. I totally thought I knew who the killer was with my two suspects but boy was I in for my money 😂. Definitely learned a lot of side information to like how antibiotics prevents your birth control from doing what it needs to do.

The cutesy plot twists at the end had me gasping out loud while I washed my dishes, the way it all ties in together has me loving Elliot way more than I thought I was going to initially. Again, you seriously can not go wrong with a Cara Bastone book. Now please go listen or read on of her books. 💗

This book was on my physical TBR for a year or so, I got the fancy edition from Fairyloot and I am so glad I read this. This book definitely deserves more hype. This is a fantasy YA book with spectacular world building. There’s magic, there’s vampires, there’s romance, and betrayal, there’s a huge mystery. We have Ava who was orphaned by her magician other and father. Something was just always unique about her that made her different and not fit in with all the others. She ends up being recruited by these magicians to become a hunter of Vampires and on her journey through these trials she makes friends, loses some, and finds out so much more she didn’t know about herself. Ava’s character growth is done beautifully, absolutely a 5 ⭐️ read. I need more people to read it ❣️

If you know, you know that this book is all over Tiktok and as advertised there, I was expecting spice and didn’t get any until like the last third of the book 🙄, I thought Tiktok had played me there for a minute. Overall it was a good read, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen or if we we’re going to get a happy ending. Lately all of my reads have not been so happy endings and I really needed one with this book. Rowan does some really cute and extremely cheesy things for Sloane that literally had me giggling and kicking my feet. 10/10 would recommend the read, plus there's a cute little side character named Lark who got her own book!

I had high hopes for this book and don’t get me wrong I did enjoy it. The plot build up just seemed to drag out longer than it needed to, whether that was intentional or not. Misha and Ryen's childhood stories is what I felt like I was living for in this book. If you like childhood friends, to enemies, to lovers. You might really enjoy this book. Personally for me I was a little lost and utterly upset at how Misha was choosing to do things, mostly that no communication trope. It always succeeds in making a book a lot less enjoyable for me. On a different note, I quickly realized how connected this book was to The Devils Night Series, I was living for it.

If you’re like me and easily fall in love with the side characters you will love this story. Going into this I was already afraid due to events that I know I would have to relive from Powerless. Getting to see more of Adena’s  personal character from a first and second POV (Mak’s) was so worth the read. I already miss these characters and this world.

The world that Penelope created with these characters has me thinking about what is to come next in the series. The way she set up the character arcs for the other Horsemen was so well executed in my personal opinion. Erika Fane was such a well devoloped character herself in this first book, her healing throughout and need to belong and stand out was relatable in more than one ways. Then we have a somewhat of a morally gray man, Michael Crist, he just seems to be pressured into certain roles due to being the older brother. His character growth was very gradual but with his POV you get to see his inner dialogue and his personal insecurities. Rika’s and Michaels romance in this book is such a slow burn but all worth the wait. I’m excited to see how these two characters grow in the rest of a series.
