This was a sweet, semi-slow burn, small town romance with accidental pregnancy. It's book 4 in the series but I had no issues reading and following the plot and all the characters even though I haven't read the previous books. I really loved the found family aspects and how supportive all the guys in the friend group were of each other.

I liked both Bowie (mmc) and Poppy (fmc) but do wish I would have felt more chemistry between them. Bowie was standoffish and a bit of a grump in the beginning, but it made sense for all the baggage he had. Poppy bringing some sunshine into his life and helping him trust again was really sweet.

Bowie's backstory with his family was something I felt was glossed over and wished would have gone deeper. I think him and Poppy talking about what he went through when he was younger would have been great and help build that connection between them.

My favorite character was easily Becca, Bowie's nine-year-old daughter. She was an absolute delight! All of the other side characters were incorporated well but it did seem like everyone was "perfect" both in looks and their careers. Small thing but just a bit "too much" for my tastes.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this book for those who already love the series as well as readers who are fans of sweet, low angst, romances.

Thank you Valentine PR and the author for the e-ARC. Review is my honest opinion.

FIVE STARS ISN’T ENOUGH! INFINITY STARS TO THIS HOCKEY ROMANCE!!!! 😍

Dallas motherfucking Shaw! The man you are! Big beefcake playboy who thinks he’s got it all figured out only to be taken down by the older, blonde, little bit emotionally broken girl he has a one-night stand with??! THE YEARNING FROM THIS MAN! This Texas boy fell HARD and FAST!

But who can blame him!? I fell hard and fast for Emily Cole too! God, I related to her so much and yet also sat with the fact that I’m lucky I’ve never had to deal with some of her fears. I wanted to hug her, drink wine and gossip with her, kiss her, and hug her again. I adored how multi-layered she was — successful, passionate, headstrong, vulnerable, emotionally/mentally torn down but still putting one foot in front of the other, sweet & loyal. Dallas was right when he said she was perfection (flaws and scars included).

This is absolutely a MUST READ! Especially if you love hockey romances, a former playboy who falls first, age gap where fmc is older (35/26), emotional connection, hot af physical chemistry, down bad mmc who makes it his mission to show his girl how sexy she is and how loved she is.

There was humor, heartache, heartwarming confessions of love, tension from sneaking around (stupid no fraternization clauses!), dirty talk that would drop a nun to her knees, pining and yearning to a degree that made me swoon and kick my feet giggling, chemistry so hot the mmc couldn’t help but finish in his pants😏, and the most beautiful love story with the most wonderful HEA!

Gahhh I just loved it so much & need everyone to read so I can gush about these two with others😭😍

Thank you to the author and TheAuthorAgency for the e-ARC! Review is my honest opinion.

Who We Are: The Torn Omega duet: Book 2 by Y.V. Larson

Honestly — kind of disappointed:/ I’m pretty sure I speed read like 80% of this book just to finish it so I could mark it as read since I hate dnfing a duet.

I really liked the premise of this duet, and the first book was a 4⭐️ for me but unfortunately, book #2 just didn’t work for my preferences.

It picks up right where we left off from first book — Amaya kidnapped, Vincent hurt, and Sam, Oli, & Emmett still working to make up for their past mistakes.

While I liked seeing the pack fully form and each of the main characters get their spotlight with their struggling feelings, overall, the story was just too choppy for me.

I’m a big fan of why choose romance so multiple pov’s is nothing new to me. But when every chapter for the first 50% switches between characters and there’s a mix of flashbacks, present time, internal thoughts only, yelling at side characters, and emotional breakdowns, — it’s a lot. It just felt like I could never stop and appreciate a character or fully immerse myself in the story because it was like trying to follow the ball in a ping pong machine.

This is a fast pace, omegaverse why choose romance set in a dystopian type of world. Thanks to a Premiere Boarding School, omegas have been treated less than human and emotional, mentally, and physically abused just because of their designation. Alphas and Betas who also went to the school experience a different abuse where they were taught (brainwashed) into horrid thinking, luckily some of them fought the shitty lessons.

This book starts shortly after the school’s vile practices have been exposed and the students rescued and placed in rehab/psych centers to recover. I haven’t read the previous books, but I didn’t feel confused at all — the author does a good job at giving a short recap as Amaya leaves the school and then rehab. And through her bonding with new Alpha Vincent and reconnecting with her past best friends (and scent mates), we learn a lot about what she’s been through.

I really loved Amaya as the fmc — she’s an omega struggling with lots of trauma and shock (back in the “real world”, finding out her dad never abandoned her, and coming face to face with three guys she’d never thought she see again). Even with all the turmoil, she’s still a little bratty and sassy and I really liked how she didn’t hide her anger over everything.

The one who stole the show for me though was easily Vincent! An alpha who stalks his mate to make sure she’s ok then attaches himself to her at the first moment of duress! He’s so freaking attentive and loving and I swooned so much!!! I love how protective he is and how safe Amaya feels with him!

As for our second chance guys — Sam (alpha), Emmet (alpha), and Oliver (beta) — ya they have a lot of groveling to do to get back into Amaya’s (and mine!) good graces! Especially Sam! Even with that, I do still feel for the three of them and liked how they are really trying and following Vincent’s lead and letting Amaya set the pace.

I can’t wait to start book 2 because this one definitely ended on a cliffhanger! I can already tell Amaya is going to have to go through some more trauma before she gets her HEA with her four mates but oh man, I am nervous!

Other things I loved with this book — Kate being a great bff for Amaya, Paul (a dad just trying to give it his all!), the suspense of what dangerous are coming, the pack relationship rebuilding between Sam, Emmet, & Oli, and that the dynamic features mm relationships as well!

Definitely recommend this for fans of omegaverse, why choose, second chance, quick burn, suspense, groveling, and protective and obsessive mmc’s!

This was a slow burn with sooooooo much tension!!! It wasn't a case of "will they, won't they?" but "omg when will they just go for it!?"

Claire is the fmc and I really loved her journey. She's in her early 20s and had run away from her family and the religious cult they were a part of. Raised in a very strict household, she's very inexperienced and has to work to undo a lot of the teachings from her childhood. Seeing her open up, discover her own desires, and learn that she's safe to speak her mind was so wonderful.

Opposite of her was Mark, the mmc. I really liked how he didn't want to immediately act on his feelings for Claire (even when she was giving him the ok to do so) because he knew how little experience she had. But when he finally gave in, oh man - so hot! Mark is about 10yrs older and definitely more experienced - he is a member of a bdsm sex club and is a pleasure dom.

I squealed when the "please, teach me" moment happened! Mark was always so sweet and attentive with Claire, and it made their love scenes have so much more chemistry.

Only wish is we would have had a bit less of a slow burn and more time with their relationship. But overall - definitely recommend!!!

Thank you to the author for the e-ARC! Review is my own, honest opinion.

Tropes/CW:

The moment I saw we were getting an "accidental pregnancy" book from this author, I squealed! Julia has a way of writing characters that makes me feel like I am right next to them; it's authentic with the perfect balance of "everything will work out perfectly in the end" romance.

This one started out with a bang!!! I highlighted the whole first paragraph screaming (OMG RELATABLE) lol. We are introduced to Goldie and WhenInRome (WIM) as they meet for the first time through a sex club's anonymous dating app! Their "this is a one-time only" hookup was omg HOT! Goldie wanted to give up complete control and have someone use her and pleasure her for hours. WIM wanted to be that person. I absolutely loved how connected the two were in those steamy scenes!!!

Thanks to the masks the two wore during their one-night-stand, when Shira and Roman meet "for the first time", neither knows the other is the one who gave them hours of pleasure just a couple months ago. & their 2nd first meeting definitely doesn't go as well.

I immediately felt drawn to and protective of Shira. She is quiet and very shy, struggles to assert dominance or push back when someone is bulldozing over her, but she is very perceptive, kind, and has a big heart. I saw a lot of myself in her and it definitely made my heart ache at times. I very much related to the "I just want someone to take over and tell me what to do and exactly what they want so I can stop worrying about decisions" thought process. Also, her anxiety and social limitations had me highlighting so many passages and notating them with "omg it's me!". While it was never said, I also got autism spectrum vibes from Shira but that could have been me projecting. Either way, she was a great character to read, and I enjoyed seeing her different layers unfurl.

This protectiveness is why I yelled in Julia's dm's about Roman during the beginning of the book lol. He definitely grew on me, but at first Rome made me so mad because it was obvious he arrived with preconceived assumptions about Shira, and he truly didn't even try to get to know her in a way that was comfortable for her. I wanted to smack him upside the head and was so happy when multiple employees gave him a metaphorical slap later! & when Shira eventually put him in his place, I was cheering her on!

Like I said though, Roman definitely did grow on me. The larger than life (literally - man is BIG! lol) was way softer and loving than the cold Roman we meet early on and once that side of him came out, I couldn't help but blush at his sweet (and dirty) words. The way he so quickly become protective and attentive when he discovered Shira was pregnant just made me melt. I also really appreciated that he didn't try to play off the way he treated Shira when they first met or ignore it - he admitted his mistakes and worked hard to prove to Shira that he's a better man than that. The little acts of service were precious, and I loved that his strong caretaking personality.

Overall, this was another fantastic read by Julia. If you want flawed, authentic characters that make mistakes like the rest of us but recognize them and work to better themselves as they grow a relationship, then I highly recommend not only this book, but all of the author's work!

*A couple additional things that made me smile - Shira's love for her cat (Mary), Rome attempting to win Mary over, the little notes left between them, the fiercely protective Clara and Bea (the trio friendship as a whole), Roman eating Shira's poisonous meals, Roman's close relationship with his brothers (Ben specifically), and last but not least -- Kit & Elliott (from PS You're Intolerable) appearance (I squealed so hard)!!!!

Thank you to ValentinePR and the author for the e-ARC of this book. Review is my own, honest opinion.

This is book two of a duet and needs to be read in order!

I was so excited to see that a 2nd book for this series was coming! I absolutely loved the first one and it wrapped up so well that a follow-up was not on my radar at all! Returning to Ella, Sebastian, and Death was another wild ride.

Similar to book #1, this is a romantic suspense, but I'd say even more focus on the suspense than the first probably. Once again, the three POVs was used well to keep the reader guessing on where everything was going and what connected. I really enjoy this author's writing as her stories pull me in and the characters keep me hooked. The tension and creepiness of certain moments gave me moments of feeling like I was reading a thriller novel.

Death is just as wild and unhinged as in the first and once again, his and Ella's unhinged moments together were probably my favorite!
I also really loved that we got to have Sebastian and Death interact this time. It was neat to see that dynamic unfold for them both.

The author's note at the end does indicate that while this duet is wrapped up, the storyline around the mystery of certain new character (avoiding spoilers) will continue in the series. That said, there were a few things left hanging that I wish had been wrapped up a bit more because it felt odd that the main two characters new more than I at the end (especially since it's written in first POV).

Still, a solid read that kept me turning pages and I definitely recommend this duet to all dark romantic, suspense fans!

Thank you to the author, Grey's Promotion, and TheAuthorAgency for the e-ARC. Review is my honest opinion.

Somehow, I missed that this college romance was written from the guy's pov only!! That was definitely different and something I've never read before; I didn't hate or love it, just different. It definitely made certain aspects more interesting, and I liked how it allowed for more time spent on the main male character's feelings as sometimes dual pov favors the fmc over the mmc.

I am more of a dual pov fan so I do overall wish we would have had some fmc pov. Oliva, the fmc, was sweet and likable; I think she fit well with Bronx. I think I would have loved their dynamic more if we had more of them getting to know each other from the romantic side. The way they helped one another grow was good character development though and worked well for their ages.

For the overall story, you get a slow burn college romance that we are all pretty used to with this genre. I liked the found family aspect but wish we would have less classroom setting and more outside the schoolwork as it caused a good portion to be a little repetitive. Too much school detail either bores me or annoys me if things don't come off as accurate (both happened for me in this one). I would have preferred more social settings and more time with the side characters as I think they were underutilized.

I'd recommend this if you like slow burn, college romance and a less focus on spice.

This was the perfect book to help me ease back into the fantasy genre (loved it when younger but haven’t read much in a while). It’s low world building and the story focuses more on the romance between the two main characters, their personal journeys, and their family relationships than on the fantastical elements.

I absolutely loved Zialda (FMC) - she was fiery and sassy but at the same time, a bit insecure. Just a very relatable character in my opinion. The way she never treated Leor differently even when discovering his true identity created an easy-going banter between the two of them and allowed for a slow burn friends to lovers romance. As for Leor, his possessiveness over Zailda was hot and I was all for the fierce protectiveness he showed for not just her, but the rest of his family as well.

The side characters (their respective siblings) made great additions, and I loved the relationships that were shown between them all. Also, the way Leor and Z brought out the best in each other and built the other’s confidence up in their personal struggles was perfect!

Overall, I am so happy I found this author on booksta and I can honestly say that she’s become a great book friend! I’m excited to go and read more of her books when my mood reader brain shifts to romantasy again!!
