Note to myself: dont let the hype get to you.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news and the one that pops the baloon of the hype created around this one. I wanted it to be great. I expected to be blown away.
The beginning was confusing. Both in writing and plotwise. Later the stoy picked up, and it was solid. I did love the atmosphere, but the characters were totally bland. They made you felt sorry for them at times but thats about it. None of them acted age appropriate.
And the ending was "now that too", vibe for me. It felt like just a bit of trying too much in every direction.

Its always hard for me to talk about memoirs. And it takes a special mood to get to reading them. Still, when I saw the synopsis of this one, I knew it is something I would like to read. I mean, book about growing up in Alaska in a somewhat unconventional family. Sign me in! And thank you @katerockbooktours @keemasaurusrex for giving me the opportunity to
read and review it.
This is a story about growing up touring music festivals, changing towns all the time, looking for stability and connection. It's also about dealing with some mental issues and loving people in spite of all of their flaws.
I wish there was more of Alaska cause it's the setting that really gives a special vibe and more about some family issues that were only touched lightly. But this is also a book of someone's life and I am sure the author had to have a lot of strength to put her life in writing and expose itself to the world.

This is a family saga about a married couple, their 4 grown up daughters and recently found missing love grandchild. Most of the characters annoyed me. Parents were too smitten with each other, to the point of rolling my eyes out. Daughters were obnoxious. The only good thing was that poor kid that got ping ponged around. I wish I got the read about him a little bit more. There were some good parts, so if you liked it I might get it. Maybe

just finished Bath Haus, and it sure was a ride. LGBTQ+ domestic thriller, gripping from the very begining and a way different from my usual reads. But, there is an inner side of me that likes stuff weird, brutal and twisted and secretly enjoys books like these. But psst, be good and don't tell. I have to keep my image of a sweet girl. Lady. Woman. Whatever
books I've read in the shortest amount of time this year. Interesting and captivating, it keeps you on the edge from the beginning. How can two people have different memories of their time spent together? And which truth is the right one?
I loved the relationship of the main characters, their holding on to old memories and feelings, and the message that it's never too late for change. Different than one could expect from the synopsis, it talks about love lost and love found, people coping with grief in many ways as well as struggles with mental illness and addictions. It is truly a wonderful story and I cant wait to read more from the author.

I generally tend to stay away from ww2 stories cause they break my heart, but I've heard so many great things about this author that I wanted to give it a try. And I wasn't wrong to - it has everything I love - a little bit of glamour lifestyle, a great story, amazing characters and overall wonderful writing.
This is a story about female reporters and photographers in the ww2 Europe. It is based on true story and some true characters and that's what I cherish the most. That I get to learn about things I didn't get to learn in school (it was more important to know all the dates of the German occupation of every European country), especially the stories about the fights women had to fight to be seen equal and worthy just as any man during that specific time.
Reading stories like these reminds me of all the brave and strong women that had the guts to fight back and stand for their beliefs. It reminds me that we can never take for granted the life we get to live now, to have the kind of life they have fought for. But it also shows me that it's not over and that there is still a lot to strive for. Cause there is a long path ahead of us, and it is on to us to make the world a better and a safer place for our daughters and granddaughters.

This book was indeed charming. Small town, family, friends and a little bit of magic....all perfect for a feel good summer read. And the books. Oh, the books

Presented as Almost Famous meets Daisy Jones, how could I ever resist reading this one? Daisy is one of my favs and Almost Famous, damn, I love that movie so much. It has that amazing vibe, and even with all the crazy stuff going on, you cannot stop smiling and wishing you'd get the taste of that showbiz life just for a little bit.
Mary Jane is a 14 yrs old girl growing up in Baltimore in 1970s . With the long and boring summer approaching, she lands a job as a nanny to a local doctor. But, it turns out that said doctor is not a normal doctor but a psychiatrist whose family is nothing but ordinary. And on top of that, two super famous people, a rock star and an actress are spending their summer with them as well.
I loved the fact that the story was told from a perspective of a teenager that has just started looking at a world with different eyes, that is learning about grown up ways and is still surprised with many things that seem so normal for adults. She is learning that the world is so much more than what is presented at home (esp considering her parents are quite conservative), that love comes in many different forms and that its possible to find a family somewhere where you'd least expect .
I listened to an audiobook and it was such a beautiful experience. Caitlin Kinnunen did an amazing job narrating it and she really gave a special touch to the character of Mary Jane.
