What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods

This was fantastic. Why did I wait so long to read this?! Estrella is forced into a position where she has chosen death over being married to a Lord. As she is ready for her fate, the Veil between human and Fae lands shatters, lifting and causing humans to be fae marked. As a result, many of them are killed immediately to prevent their fae mates from finding them.

Caelum rescued Estrella and her brother from the Wild Hunt, but what comes next is worse than they could ever have expected. Traveling in the mountains to find refuge, they are able to find a safe place to be, while contributing to the safety of the marked ones overall. Close proximity and a desire to claim one another makes for an awkward vibe with the others, but Caelum becomes more and more unhinged in his desire to protect Estrella.

This was such a fantastic read, I couldn't put it down! Wren is blessed to be Given to the gods, but when she accidentally realizes that they're not serving the gods, but being sacrificed. Of course, she flees, and is trying her best to teach the Sapphire Coast to get as far away as she can. The elements themselves are against her, and she ends up saving a complete stranger.

Gabriel is a Hunter, skilled and revered in the kingdom for his work. Of course, he happens to be the stranger Wren saves. He doesn't realize right away that she's Marked, and on top of that is the girl he's hunting. They have an instant and intense bond, but the moment he sees her mark glowing everything changes.

As he hunts, she runs, finding out more than she ever wanted to about being Marked and Given. Uncovering the truth will either damn her or save her, and she soon realizes that Gabriel will do the same.

A visit back to Zodiac Academy when the twins first came in this one. It was really fun to see things from the guys' perspective, and it made a lot of other info surface that wouldn't have been caught with only the girls' side.

Their time at zodiac has been challenging, but they're not the only ones struggling. Granted the heirs are just overinflated dicks with ego problems, their attitudes will get them into deep....trouble with the twins. Love seeing this perspective.

This was nostalgia at its finest, with a harsh dose of reality. I loved revisiting the Buffy episodes, which now of course I want to watch again, and it was nice to see that there are parallels to art throughout time. The experiences Kristin and Jenny shared were heartbreaking and brutal, but also healing. Seeing that you aren't alone in trauma is a huge thing, an important thing.

This is releasing in a great time politically as well. Some of the issues they were dealing with are issues now today, or are bigger issues today, and I can only hope that it will help people find comfort and solace in their trauma, knowing that others experience the same things too.

Check on your friends, make sure the people you love know it, and be unapologetically you, always.

Great to see some backstory between the Orions and the Acruxes. The family dynamic in the Acrux family is questionable at best, by the way they're forcing the Orions to be a part of something unwillingly is such a horrible fate.

It was great to see what happened next for Wren and Lee in this one. The Academia is full of secrets that students are getting killed for discovering it. Wren and Lee are separated by information and a magical barrier, but Wren is not alone.

Lily, Ruby, and the Elemental Viento are now helping Wren to use the book and find whatever its leading them to. As they fight unknown dangers outside of the magical dome, Lee and Luke are fighting them inside. As Lee discovers more secrets that his sister left behind, he tries to find a way to get to Wren.

As everything unfolds, Wren and Lee must decide if their love is enough, and Wren will have to work to unite the triad and save all moon magic.

This was such a fun and super cute graphic novel! I loved the premise that this random immortal vampire just shows up in a bathhouse, stark naked, shocking everyone. I loved the story that went with it but it's just so absurd, and I couldn't not read this!

I seem to keep finding major cliffhangers lately, but this one was so good! Wren is mundane - she has no power from the moon and isn't considered moonstruck like her friends. Sam and Lee, her very best friends from childhood, and her whole world. As Lee is about to leave again for the academy, he and Wren celebrate her birthday, but get a huge surprise - she is indeed moonstruck.

Navigating the academy and knowing nothing about her magic, Wren quickly learns that the magical world is far more complicated than she ever expected. It's also far more dangerous. As Wren finds her way, Lee, Sam and the rest of their friends make their own discoveries and alliances. In the midst of all of this, Wren and Lee finally realized what they are to each other. Unfortunately, the night couldn't have ended any worse.

This was such a cute and fun one! Margot co owns her family's winery with her brother Elliot, and she's been working so hard to prove herself to him since it was left to both of them. She loves the winery, and her brother, but she needs a night off. And she happens to meet Luke.

Of course, back to reality and work the next day to see who her brother hired in her absence, and of course. Guess who? Luke?! Figuring out how to work with each other after the night they had together has been nothing short of impossible. The banter in this is so fun, the spice is hot, and the friendships are deep.

I loved watching Luke and Margot figure out what they wanted both for themselves, and for each other.

This was such a ride! Kat is an Avid, having a special ability, and is owned by a man named Marco. He rescued her from a worse situation, but a gilded prison is still a prison. When she meets a handsome stranger in the park she doesn't dare to hope for the freedom to actually get to know him.

When Marco takes her to investigate the murder of someone in his family, Kat learns that the handsome stranger is in fact Marco's son. What else is he lying about? What else is he hiding from her? And why are the dead avoiding her, despite it being her power?

This was full of twists and turns, and even though I thought I had it figured out at the end I did not expect that reveal! I need the next one!
