"We were driving to my grandfather's funeral when my dad told me he loved me for the first and only time. I was looking out the window when I heard him say 'I love you son'  and without looking back at him I said 'love you too'  leaving out the 'i' and without looking back at him. As if that would be too much. Now when I close my eyes and try to picture his face, all I see is blue sky through the window of a moving car"

I didn't expect this to be as emotional as it is. A very beautiful book of story comics, always of an inanimate object, or the back of people. Focusing on the little things of a person.

A beautiful book about our perceptions of what the end of the world looks like. Looking not just zombified examples but in fact what the end looks like in terms of oppression, what the world looks like to different people.
This novel mainly focuses on film, would have loved some videogame examples as this was mentioned many times, but understand why they didn't pursue that route.

I have to say I didn't love this tie-in, it does feel like a movie that would come out of this universe yet I didn't feel I connected to the characters like I do in snw.
I wish we got to follower Spock or Uhura more, but for the most part I did like Pike's pov. But wasn't a fan of unas unfortunately
The plot I also found a bit lacking as well as the "twist"
Overall a decent tie in, but didn't quite meet the mark for me

The last gifts of the universe by Riley August - 3 stars
“I don't know what the future will bring, but i know that right now Pumpkin is with me, my brother is with me and we are about to go watch an amazing, terrible, impossible movie with robot vampires”
EMOTION this book is all about it.
Joy. Sadness. Fear. Anger. Frustration.
We see over the course of this book, two siblings who venture out into the galaxy, exploring a cosmos that is dead and barren. When the world reached out to the stars they found that everyone was dead, and since then they have been trying to find out why and how they can stop it.
The characters in this book are exceptional, from Pumpkin the cat to the characters found in recordings from other worlds.
“It’s so easy, when things don’t go as we’ve planned, to think that we’re a failure. To think that things will never get better.”
For such a short book it packs a punch. Dealing with the many facets of grief, past and in real time. While some of the messaging is a bit on the nose, i found that i didnt mind it, the characters and what they were going through really pulled the story together.
“We turn one long, lazy bend, and I swear to all that is good in the universe there is a noise ahead. A clatter. I do not like clatters on dead planets.”
The remnants on the planet are terrifying, especially if you are listening to the audiobook and hear the creaking in real time. But at the core the book is a cosy scifi, very much about exploring worlds with the ones that you care about, with the emotional impact of a studio ghibli movie.
A beautiful story, short and sweet.
“I get up, Pumpkin trots eagerly beside me, towards the den and i tell myself… this one is”

very cute novella, i love a good plotline about breaking a news story! i wasnt sure what this story was about going into it, but really ended up enjoying it.
i wish that it was a little longer, plus a few more incidents such as the side effects hitting Hannah. but i loved the representation of insomnia, as someone who has it - it is a great depiction.
overall a very good novella
