I loved this book! The only thing I felt wasn’t 100% was the ending, it felt a little bit rushed and abrupt, I wish the found out more about the characters after the fact... but I still really enjoyed it!

I don’t know what to say about this book other than it was incredible. From the moment I picked it up, I felt like I couldn’t put it down.
From the vivid descriptions of the marsh, to the devastating scenes of Kya and her loved ones, this book was absolutely captivating.

Set in the time between 1950 - 1970 it felt quite similar to To Kill A Mockingbird at some points. It explored race, prejudice, loneliness and just about everything in between. Can we please take a moment to appreciate Jumpin’ and Mabel, I just loved reading about their relationship and how it developed

“Love cannot be reduced to a catalogue of reasons why, and a catalogue of reasons cannot be put together into love.” ⁣

It is 1866, and Walter Moody has come to make his fortune upon the New Zealand goldfields. On the night of his arrival, he stumbles across a tense gathering of twelve men, who have met in secret to discuss a series of unsolved crimes.

“The world ain't straight. You grow up thinking things are a certain way. You think there are rules. You think there's a way that things have to be. You try to live straight. But the world doesn't care about your rules, or what you believe. The world ain't straight, Vivian. Never will be.”

To be honest I was a bit sceptical of this book at first, I thought it was going to be another chic lit, romance story, but I was DEAD wrong!!
I really loved this book! Set in New York City in the 1940s, the vibes were IMMACULATE!! I felt like I was in NYC with Vivvie, experiencing her life with her, the ups and the downs!
Vivvie the main character goes on such a journey and it was amazing to read! There was characters that you loved one chapter and hated the next, but in the best way possible. Shoutout to Olive, Mr. Herbert and Frank
