I really enjoyed this story and how real they were with being in a poly relationship. I loved how they worked through the first, the second, and the third relationship because they are all separate in a way. I will say I was definitely more interested in the relationship story than the actual plot but the plot was good I like how Mel grew.

So this is one of my two tests into stepping my toe into Historical Romance.  While the other I found was slower then my taste and I wanted more info on something else that the plot was not really focusing on. This one felt more like a romance that was just dropped in a historical setting. Also, I have read  Mrs. Herrera's work before and that may have helped me with liking this book more.  Now for the background I am coming from a viewpoint of before when I read Historicals they were always war ones or had to do with war in some contexts.  This just felt like an old contemporary or even paranormal romance.  So I think that is also what helped me be able to enjoy this one more. I do plan to read the other books in this series so this is not a knock just an insight as someone who is new to this part of the romance world.

I enjoyed this book and connected with Ana as the oldest child in a Mexican American family. Besides that, the day to day life and their relationship was kind of borning. I got more invested when the War became a bigger figure at the end of the story.  I am actually more excited for the other sisters because it seems like the war will be a bigger plot to the story.  Thought this could be because when I do read historicals I mostly read wartime historicals and this is my first step into historical romance.

I liked this one better than the first but my favorite is still the second book in the series. I liked the dynamic of the two main characters' had and how much agency Katee gives her female main characters.  I also realize that it seems like the pattern for this series perhaps is that the "good" guys (that Disney created)  are actually the bad guys and that every bad guy could have a reason for why they are doing what they are doing. I like that view point and curious for how the rest of the books go.

5.0

So at first, I was going to give this a 4.75 because I was very emotional at the end. After some thought and sitting in my feelings yes this is definitely a 5. The world building was so good in this story it felt nior, old, but slightly futuristic at the same time. I liked the view point of someone from the Americas talking about European vampires.  How she described the different vampires and how the humans were dealing with them was very interesting. Now the only thing I will say is that if you are a romance girly like me be careful about be swept up with the romantic thread in the story. It has romantic elements it is not a romance you have been warned do not let yourself be hurt like I was. Besides that I will say this is so good and I recommend you read this.

I liked this book though it was slow and I was able to put it down slightly easily at the beginning. Though once you get through to closer to the middle it does pick up. When the big action like scene happens its quite gripping and emotional. I did tear up a couple of times so be warned.  I do have to say I guessed at the beginning that it was connected to The Last Cuentista and it is you see it at the end. I won't tell you how or what happens but I was excited when I was proved right.
