This book was good.
I am a big fan of fake dating & slow-burn tropes, but I’m not a big fan of bad communication..
I feel like this book could’ve easily been as good as ‘Icebreakers’ if one of them would’ve finally admitted their feelings towards each other earlier on. The last 60 pages of the book were *chef’s kiss* ✨.
I could relate to her character and her feelings soo much that it was scary. The way she wanted to say one thing and always said something else or nothing entirely is so relatable to me! Which is also why I’m not hating on her character even tho their communication was bad. But she just couldn’t help it.
Aaron is just … I don’t know what to say. I think I’m in love. The way he talked to her when they were back in his apartment and he carried her over to the kitchen counter? *sigh*

For a debut book this series has sooo much potential!
The magic “system” is a mix of different systems and I enjoyed reading about it. I liked Elsbeth even tho it is YA& I usually don’t enjoy those because of the stupid thoughts. But she had little to none of those dumb teenage thoughts. The banter felt really sincere and I loved the interactions with her nightmare.
I will definitely read the next book because the cliffhanger caught my attention.
Overall it had to little world building for my taste. So far it’s really just two villages, a castle and some mist. Also I believe the characters deserve some more depth and attributes to make them more likeable.

I would give it 6 stars if I could!
This book is everything! Possibly my new favorite series of all time- it’s Divergent meets Hunger Games meets Dragons✨
I dig a female MC that is actually smart and capable and able to grow above her abilities! The character development is wonderful & I fell in love with Violet & Xaden

I got really lucky because my local German bookstore had my preorder in already and I got to read it 4 days before release. But I still have the audible and kindle version on preorder as well so that will count into the official sold versions
