I started this book because it was supposed to be better than fourth wing. My expectations where soo incredibly high.. I should’ve known better than to start a book where my expectations are so high.

Roman Kitt and Iris Winnow are those star crossed lovers in an epic war of gods who turn from enemies to lovers. It is set in a World War II kinda time. They both start out as writers for a newspaper
Spoiler and discover that their typewriters are somehow magically connected. They write letters to each other and Iris doesn’t find out until very late that she is writing with Roman.
Iris eventually quits her job to find her brother who is lost in the war and she starts working as a war correspondent.

Roman C. Kitt is the ultimate book boyfriend.
Spoiler He travels 600km to the war front, quits his job, calls of an arranged engagement to be with her.

The characters are loveable, but for some reason I didn’t connect to them the way I would’ve loved to. I feel like with 200 more pages this book could’ve done better. So much has happened in those short amount of pages that it felt kinda rushed..

I am excited what the next book will bring because I still have high hopes. I think the story itself is very cool. Wyvern, Gods, Magical typewriter..
Hopefully it’ll be like acotar where the first book is just to get you into it and the next one blows me off my chair.

It's no surprise that I rate this book 5 stars. It's Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Her writing style is just the best. I always love her mix between thoughts & explaining the surroundings.
Calista is such a cool new character. I am so excited where this series is going - it has so much potential!
I didn't like the Baron at the beginning but once I saw more of him
Spoilerand the fact that he wanted to fight I felt like he wanted to redeem himself I liked him better. I have a feeling he might be more important to the story and show up somehow again..

Calista's intuition was something I really enjoyed. I always love Jens books because the fmc is rarely stupid. She is badass and smart. I am a sucker for that.

Thorne. Well. What can I say about him that wouldn't be an understatement? Everything about the hyhborn in general was so interesting. The whole "feeding on her pleasure" thing,
Spoilertheir cum being an aphrodisiac and all the things about how a lowborn could potentially use their different body parts was so cool to find out.
I loved the banter between Thorne and Calista. #whohurtyou & #touchherandyoulldie are two tropes I always find delight in.

Also: I can always trust in JLA to add queer / bisexual characters in her stories, but this time they were placed to effortlessly and I enjoyed that a lot.

The more I read of V.E. Schwab the more I feel like she just isn’t my author.. I mean yes it was an entertaining read but I wouldn’t recommend it to my bestie which is my dead tell if I liked the book or not. It’s not an awful book. Don’t get me wrong. It’s well written and an interesting story with very deep characters. But it just wasn’t for me.
