What a great story! I really enjoyed this stroyline and main character. The main character was quite nice and readers could feel empathy for her. She was likeable which is a great thing (so many MCs have been very unlikable in other fantasy books I've read).

However, the writing needs some work. The dialogues, the descriptions and the repetitiveness of certain things made it apparent that the writing needs work. Specifically when it came to worldbuilding i did not feel like I was really able to imagine the atmosphete and the creatures.

Great pacing, great story! It was quite good, and very engaging. I couldn't guess the twists until the end, which grants this book a 4 star!

This was not the most well execute thriller out there but the premise was quite unique! I can't believe that as a Psychology graduate I did not realize what was happening until after 60% of the book!

It was ok. There may have been some plot holes but I enjoyed the background of the main character and the premise of the book.

This book was great in many unexpected ways. The premise is very simple and the story seems like not much is happening but this book reads very very quickly. The writing is very ingenious and it has a very unique voice.
The main character is not likeable, but of course, this i very intentional. It seems like the "message" of the book is very open ended. I think it reaches the reader in different ways, so each reader can give it different meaning and a message.

I wasn't expecting to like this book that much. The premise was so simple, there is no mystery or twists or romance or even development and there is a very limited character cast. However, it is still a very intriguing story and it makes you reflect a lot. It is chaotic, it is unhinged,

This was a great debut! This is piece of life, family reunited after years of not seeing each other, and a book about grief and guilt.

Some reviews say that this book was boring. I found this quite good, it talks about heavy subjects, family dynamics and grief and guilt. Yes, some of the characters were kind of dumb but I couldn't put the book down! I didn't find it boring, I found it warming. The three siblings coming back together after a lot of trauma.

The end is a happy ending and it felt like a great cozy read. Noncrazy twists or dramatic ending, which was great. Predicatble but happy and cozy.

Why did Jake go missing?? Like... why not contact your siblings let them know you need some time to process everything.  If he wasn't mad about the past why hide away? From his collegues too. Didn't seem too logical.

This was definitely a great thriller! Lisa's writing is very easy to follow and the story is very engaging. The audiobook was, in my opinion, the best way to read this is through the audiobook. The audiobook had a great cast and you coukd follow the "podcast" better.

I personally thought it was a bit predictable. I could never trust any of the narrators, which was very well done and until the end it leaves you unsure of what really happens, which I personally don't like. It is quite open ended and the twists didn't seem strong enough for me.
Josie was already such a weird , strange, unhinged and unpredictable character so you know that anything she says is cannot be trusted. Also, it seemed like everyone glossed over the fact that Walter is a pedophile and all the story focused on Josie. Yes she is manipulating but a grown man made the choice to be with a 15 year old. As much as they paint Josie as a manipulator, she had adults around her that negelected her and didn't interfere.

Lisa See is a great wirttee for being able to create a story and characters that are so intriguing! This is unlike a lot of historical fiction writing. It was interesting and well researched. If yoj like historical women fiction and want something easy to read, intriguing and unique this is it. I recommend listening to the audiobook as it is quite long.

This book is about women empowerment and friendship. Even when times were different and social dynamics were challenging, women came together in different ways. This was a beautiful book about strong women coming together.

While Lida See is a white woman, she shows to have done a lot of research for this book. This was well written regardless of the author's background.

Review (spoilers)
☆☆☆☆

I am not big on romance books but this was very well done. The trop of fake dating to lovers is all over the place but this felt unique! Part of it had to do with the very realistic characters and himan life problems! (Marriage issues, mistrust, trauma, mental health etc).

While this book had a small aspect of "miscommunication", as in 'you could have just talked about it', and then problem is solved, this seemed more legit. They both had a reason for now wanting to communicate how they feel excalty and this was very well done.

Jacob is a great characater. Like other reviewers, his social anxiety was very detailed and added a lot to the story in a good way! It gives you a character some of us can really relate to. His anxiety was well developed and explained.

The family dynamics, the kidney trnasplant process, all tears worth, it shows the harsh realities of people going through hard procedures and family members having to deal with this too. It was great romance  story with a great message too!

Hhmmmm this is very much a hot take but.... it is ok! I think the first 70% was too long and honestly a bit boring. Last 30 to 20% was good, a lot was happening and some twists here and there
But it was ok, i think it was a bit long for me but i can see how each chapter brings more value to the story and character development
