The Au Pair Affair by Tessa Bailey

This book was cute. I really loved Burgess; he's observant and protective and very sweet. And I loved Tallulah; she's firey but scared of being hurt, and doesn't want that to stop her living her life. The main  characters were really the only thing I loved about the book.

I wanted a slow burn. With the nanny dynamic and Tallulah's background with men, I wanted the tension build to be excruciating. It was not. Their relationship was quick to progress both physically and emotionally, even thoughTallulah didn't want to commit to anything. I didn't enjoy the friend characters that were clearly a set up for the next book - Sig and Chloe gave me the ick more than I wanted to know more about them.

Overall, it was an okay read.

"I see you, Layla Dupree. Clear as day. I always have."

Layla and Caleb are so sweet. Layla's been on a string of particularly bad dates, and Caleb thinks he's "too much for some people," so they agree to practice date. She'll get to go out with a good man, and Caleb will get some pointers on his dating game.  It's just for a month. What could go wrong? Spoiler: they could fall in love.

BK Borison does a great job of building friendships as her characters fall in love. It's so believable. I love that the town of Inglewild is a character by itself - the people in it are distinct, but as a whole they create a level of chaos that's always fun.

And the narration was amazing! I loved Pippa and Julio!

Tropes: he falls first, practice dating, golden retriever hero, small town, innapropriate use of the town phone tree, so many baked goods

"Plus, everything gets quiet when I look at you."

Beckett and Evie were so cute, and there was SO. MUCH. PINING. There are tons of small town shenanigans, including irresponsible use of the phone tree and thinly veiled matchmaking. Every minute was delightful.

Tropes: idiots in love, small town romance, grumpy cinnamon roll hero, sunshine heroine

“Love like ours doesn’t just go away. It cuts clean through everything. It’s start-to-finish kind of love, all right?”

Excuse me while I cry over golf. Not just the romance. The actual golf.

You know with Tessa Bailey you’re getting banter and heart, and Wells and Josephine DELIVERED.

She falls first, he falls harder. Type 1 Diabetes rep. Workplace romance. Flirty trash talk. She’s obsessed with his butt.

TJ Alexander is a new favorite FOR SURE. I love the realness they bring to their characters. Watching two oblivious humans fall in love when they think it’s one sided is my favorite, and Simone and Ray delivered in the most delicious way.

I did not expect to get emotional over to serial killers falling in love. But I loved them!

Such a great story! I loved Eli and Nick, and I loved reading a book with characters in their 30s!
