Maybe I just need to read more thrillers or something, but holy moly I was not expecting to love this book so much. The suspense and tension was delicious, and every single character felt so rounded and realistic. The way the book deals with climate and technology is also extrapolated from today as smoothly as the best science fiction novels. I'll be very excited to see what this author writes next!

I'm afraid I had higher expectations for this book than I think it deserves. While I'll continue to keep an eye on this author, the prose and pacing of this book make it somewhat clear to me that this is a debut book -- but I enjoyed the characters and the subversion inherent to beginning the story with what might be the climax in a more traditional fantasy story.

This is a very fun book. I especially love the characters! Bringing two young girls on a pirate adventure story is a great pitch, and this book delivers on that pitch in such a lighthearted, entertaining way. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Murderbot, with its humor and heart, is such a good comfort read. This was a reread, and I loved it just as much as the first time!

My 3-star ratings typically signify "if you already think you might like this book, you should go ahead and give it a try!" and Carmilla exemplifies this rating: if you know of Carmilla, you probably know it as the precursor to Dracula, a story where two gay girls get to know each other and one of them turns out to be a vampire. And, yup, that's what this story is! I enjoyed it, but I don't feel it gave me anything deeper than this.

This book is everything that I had hoped it would be: excellent magic system, immersive worldbuilding, and an epic plot. It's been a while since I've read something that feels so quintessentially epic fantasy, and it feels great to be back.

I loved this book! The alternate world is interesting, the characters are all super fun and compelling (Sunny is the best one), and the plot kept me engaged the whole time! While certain elements of the story were predictable, I would still easily recommend this book to anybody with book tastes similar to my own.

I had pretty low expectations, since this book is so popular that I've heard every different opinion there is to be had about it. But yeah, it should be no surprise that a bad-ass woman and her dragons are cool. So, I liked it more than I had expected!

While still a fun book, I think it's one of Joe's weaker novels. I think I also would have enjoyed it more if I had read it before the Age of Madness trilogy, though, so maybe this one's on me...

This book teaches you how to format your writing as concise click-bait. They have a strong point about people's short attention spans, but I'm also not convinced that their format is as universally applicable as they claim. I do appreciate how the whole book is written in their "Smart Brevity" format, and it indeed makes the book very easy to quickly skim. So, they demonstrate with the book that their concept works! But honestly, if you're a poor communicator and need to learn business writing specifically, I might recommend this book. Everyone else can skip it -- I'm sure there are much better choices out there.
