challenging dark informative reflective tense
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

No rating & here are my thoughts:

- genuinely such a fucking good idea to mix tonally the vibes of Gladiator/The Hunger Games with some real & intense commentary about the injustice & corruption of the prison justice system & how it disproportionately affects black and brown people.
- genuinely such horrifying subject matter at times and I loved how the author included footnotes
- simultaneously campy and wacky while also super serious & I loved how it played with different elements of punk?? The story of revolution/anarchism/abolitionism in here was so poignant
- I really struggled with the writing style however, & it felt very jarring and honestly kind of all over the place?? The subject matter is so important I think this is absolutely worth the read regardless, but if I’m being real I often found myself very confused following the characters and remembering who was who and what was actually going on apart from like the core story/commentary being told to us

Miles McKenna?!?!?!??
dark mysterious reflective tense medium-paced

Goddddd I wish I liked this more

Positives:
- the sapphic characters were so fun to follow for the most part and their dynamic really did remind me of Kit & Elora from Willow
- the aesthetic of the world & the lush writing were both very decadent & pretty

Negatives:
- I just…. Didn’t buy it. The world building/plot didn’t feel all that strong & it felt pretty predictable.
- I was locked into the romance at first, but even that ended up feeling kinda insta-lovey

I started off at a 4.5-4⭐️ vibe, & I fear I dropped to like a 2.75⭐️

It was so nice putting faces to these characters and seeing these events play out omg…. Don’t even be surprised when I re-read this series
adventurous hopeful tense fast-paced

This was cute! Also fuck all you homophobes and butthurt fanboys who review bombed this… y’all are freaks

Positives:
- many favourites from the high republic all in one book here & it was my multiverse of madness
- Reath <3 Vernestra <3 Imri <3 Stellan <3
- Lesbian couple therapy retreat in space <3

Negatives:
- at times I did not vibe with the pacing in this and the jump from character-character felt a tad choppy and jarring at times
adventurous dark emotional reflective sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

Oh my Fitz & my Fool my beloveds <3 how you mean the world to me. I am so terrified to read Fool’s Fate you have no idea
adventurous fast-paced

Cute, but honestly kind of boring & unnecessary I feel.

It definitely had promise & high stakes and some fun characters; the story added some pretty wild lore & the vibes even felt a little reminiscent to Rogue One.

However, the story just didn’t really feel all that fully realized for me for me to reaaaaallllyyy be all that locked in/believe it??
