This is a re-read. I first read the trilogy back in like 2011/2012 and for some reason have found myself down Nostalgia Boulevard so here I am revisiting this series.

I genuinely really enjoyed this first book. It does a good job, in my opinion, of introducing the mystery of who these boys are, who is WICKED, and why are we all here. From what I remember TMR was my favorite book in the trilogy and a decade later it still holds up to how much I remember enjoying it.

“Maybe there was no right or wrong, no black or white, only a thousand shades of gray when it came to pain and what we each held ourselves responsible for.”

Overall I really enjoyed this book and Bree’s and Archer’s story of healing. The last about 15% or so of the book was a lot of emotional whiplash though and I personally was not a fan of it. This might just be a me thing, but it really felt like a bunch of ideas occurred to the author and none could be left out and it was just kind of chaotic. If it hadn’t been for that this book would’ve been more of a 4.5 for me.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 34%.
After taking about a month long break from this book I’m officially going to dnf. I just don’t feel the incentive to pick it up again. Maybe in the future I’ll change my mind. My reasoning is it was feeling a bit too forced to me. I get the whole premise revolves around fate, but it just felt like the narrative was pushing it rather than it feeling natural? Something can be fate and still feel like there’s an easy and natural flow to things, but at least to me that wasn’t how this was going.

“Sometimes people do things to you that you can’t do anything about. You just have to survive it and go on.”

Honestly I loved this book even more than the first. I absolutely loved the addition of ART as well. I would watch a multiple seasons show and read a multiple book series just about Murderbot and ART adventures and their banter. This was just a fun time that had me at the edge of my seat during the climax.

“You never realize you’re living the best time of your life […] It happens and then it ends, and you only see it for what it was after.”

The miscommunication trope should be illegal lmao. This book would’ve been a solid 5 stars if the miscommunication hadn’t gone on for as long as it did. I was pretty forgiving of it at first because I did feel like the author did a great job at setting up Briana’s and Jacob’s traumas individually so when the miscommunication happened it actually made sense for the plot. But then it just kept going longer than I felt was necessary to drive the point home. Other than that though, I had a good time reading this story. Jacob has been added to my list of fictional boyfriends, thank you.
