It was a fun lighthearted book. A pretty easy read imo though at times it gave me second hand embarrassment. I really enjoyed the book though I thought it would focus more on the love story then it did. It focused a lot on sexism and how cultures can impact it. I thought it was very well written and I really liked reading it.

This book was so meh I started skipping and half reading. There was so much unnecessary yapping and they never got to the point. The smut was mid and the book was basically only laid up for smut so… yeah.

The plot had low intrigue and it felt half done and like the author didn’t know what she wanted with this book. A whole lot of nothing happened in this.

yikes this was a waste of time

Well this book was very mid. Better then the first book but still mid af.

So through out this whole book they made the choice to make it seem like it would or could be a step sibling thing that could happen cuz Mab could have been her daughter. But omg I would have literally thrown this book against the wall and then burned it to the ground if she’d made this book into a step sibling thing.

Thankfully she didn’t. I mean i was more mad that she even made it a possibility then actually thinking it would happen. To me it was very obvious that she wouldn’t be her daughter but isn’t that this whole book series in a nutshell, predictable.

There has been some foreshadowing that she could be a primordial, they have mentioned that u can’t become a primordial cuz they are simply born. Soooo I’m hoping she will be one cuz if she’d turn out to be Mabs daughter I would have murdered someone. I’m so happy they didn’t do that cuz it’s just very weird and just ewww.

But since we still don’t know what she is my bet is primordial or like fates. Like I have a theory that she is a fate and that’s why she sees the golden lines and can cut them and effectively kill people (like the fates in Disney’s Hercules movie).

But like tell me why? Whyyyy did it take the whole second book for them to reach the fairy realm?!????

LIKE BE FUCKING FOR REAL.

Both books severely lacks and a lot of the time this book was just so repetitive and filled with filler chapters. Like she just wanted to drag this book out for as long as she could. Like why? Why did it take until the end of the second book for something to start happening??

Then I don’t even wanna mention the smut. Like no. Please no. It was not great bordering on like assault in both the first book and the second. Where she has just almost died and he needs to fuck her then and there in front of his friend?? To what? Stake a claim on her like it wasn’t dreadfully obvious that they were mates. Like it wasn’t obvious that the only reason he had even seen her was to try and save her and that he had zero interest in her. Like HELLO?!????

Nah this book was basically just them fighting, her saying she wants to be independent, then not being able to be without him, to then fighting again and then having sex and then they just repeated that throughout their whole book.

I really liked the side plots tho. Like Holt and Emelda, ugh plsss I love them.

ooooo and I love Fallon and Estrellas relationship to each other!!! It’s so cute and wholesome.

I’m lowkey scared that the author might ruin Fallon as a character to make her into a villain we didn’t need or want.

I’m so happy that they are finally in the fairy realm and i feel like this is where I’d personally wanted the second book to start but whatever that’s just me. I’ve literally been waiting for them to reach the fairy realm since the first book. I’m fucking crying out here.

The second book felt like an info dump and truly gave second book syndrome lmao.

Bro what even was this??
I write down my thoughts while reading sometimes and omg this was just. I have no words.

My thoughts from while I was reading will be surrounded like this: /thoughts/

Like if we just look at my first comment on the book, I literally call the plot twist of the book immediately when she meets him.

/Caelum has to be fae there is no way he isn’t unless they’re doing a love triangle thing, there is too much foreshadowing for it not to be./

Then we can ask so talk about how the nicknames for her is actually atrocious. Like you don’t even know how much I hate them.

Like I HATE the nickname “little one”!!!! It gives me this ick. It’s so gross. Like of all the nicknames you had to pick that was the one?? No! Absolutely not! EWWWW!!!

And then ”My star”???? Okay did this author just search “worst endearments to give someone you like” cuz like wtf is that???? I literally cringed when I read that. The nicknames were unbearable.

I did like the writing styles tho but also not, idk it’s weird. I feel like she over uses some phrases a lot which made it kinda repetitive.

I also just think her brother might have survived. But that’s just me foreshadowing.

LMAO okay look at me trying to convince myself that it’s not him cuz I don’t like him, help.
/Okay he won’t be fae so either it’s going to be a love triangle or her fae is going to be an enemy (maybe enemy to lovers maybe)./

Like okay sure buddy. I was really trying out there while reading the book. So hopeful that he might not be her love interest.

/It’s deff gonna be enemies to lovers with the fae tho/ (ha I mean I won’t be wrong)

/Bro I so don’t want Caelum to be her love interest. yuck. He’s so cocky and vulgar and it’s not cute. It’s annoying and my new found ick. Like the way he talks to her and says he knows she wants to fuck him is just annoying. plss don’t let him be the main love interest. Let there be another cuz if he is the fae which I hope he isn’t I would be so annoyed. Also I called that like the second she met him so it wouldn’t even be surprising or a plot twist it would just be annoying and boring and predictable af. (lol look at me go, really trying not to believe what I know is gonna happen, I was really trying to convince myself that he wouldn’t be her main love interest)

/I wonder if they’re foreshadowing that he will end up killing her and if so she’ll either get brought back alive or she’ll die in the last book. orrr they’re just saying it to show that she wants him but doesn’t trust him fully./

Caelum is weird af and everything he says is just not it. Like he is a walking ick.

/He’s soooo suspicious and acting hella weird. Like he’s wayyyy to protective and the biggest ick is he saying that she said yes so she can’t back out of doing sexual things with him. Like ewwww no./

To end it all here is my rant from when I just finished the book.

noooooo I’m so upset I was right. I dont like him I didn’t want him to be her fated mate!! Ahhhhh bruh it was so predictable that I called it from the moment she met him like be fucking for real. And because it was so predictable and I didn’t like him I just constantly tried to convince myself that she would meet her fae later in the book. nahhh I’m actually so upset like I don’t like him at all I don’t think I’ll be able to stand him for two more books bro. I’m done. This book was so mid and like not a lot happened and the only thing that did happen was that I was constantly annoyed with the guy who is our love interest and our mc who constantly just stopped every thought she had and every question she had because you know what was more important? Getting fucked, that was like the main reason she stopped asking questions every time he did sus stuff. She’d just go I’m scared of him but omg he’s so hot he can fuck me anywhere. Like girl what?!?? nahhh like I was annoyed with both the main characters and this book had so much potential too and it just turned out so mid I’m actually crying. What a waste of time.

Bro this is only going to be spoilers and is basically my thoughts throughout the book in chronological order sooo yeah.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

OMG. I. LOVE. EVERY. INTERACTION. SHE. HAS. WITH. XADEN.

I literally laughed out loud when she has her first flight with Tairn and she falls off thinking she’s gonna die but he catches her only to say “you’re making us look bad. stop it.” I already love her dragon he’s so funny and dead pan.

Is it weird to say that my favorite character might just be her dragon?!??!? like plssss I LOVE HIM. He’s so funny I’m cackling every time he speaks, like I’m crying and dying over here.

SHE HAS TWO?!??????
OMG I LOVE THEM BOTH I’M SO HAPPY.

LIKE LOWKEY BOTH OF THE DRAGONS ARE GIVING BEST FRIEND VIBES WERE ONE IS SUNSHINE AND THE OTHER IS THE GRUMP!!!! UGHHH I LOVE IT.

Can I just say yuck! Fuck Dain he’s so annoying and I hate how everyone calls her weak, especially him, fuck him for treating her like glass and having zero faith in her.

On the other hand we love Xaden cuz he’s just so awwww and an asshole but the good kind where he like actually believes in her and shit.

It’s hilarious how Xaden has to protect her now that their dragons are mates and they’re bonded. Like he’s protecting her but like he’s being a dick about it and she doesn’t want his protection and it’s bordering overbearing and is just slightly annoying and a bit too much and I LOVE it.

AHHHHHHH. okay. I’m obsessed with him. The way he picks up her pen with his shadows and is just paying som much attention to her and caring about her safety and at the same time pretending like he doesn’t give a shit is just soooo ugh, you know?

I’m lowkey waiting for Xaden to do something fucked up but I also kinda think he’s like going to be part of some sort of rebellion and I think she’s gonna realize and find out about the fucked up stuff that happened and is happening and will join him. Like it’s already really clear to me that her mom and the higher ranks are shady af and keeping information and the way they treat the rebellion kids is just such a give away.

Dain has already fucked up and showed that his alliance lies with the government and the rules, I don’t trust him and I hope she won’t share something with him that she’ll come to regret.

I’m obsessed with the fact that they can talk to each other inside their head. It’s great and awesome and this book is giving red queen meets acotar but with dragons.

ha lmao I’ve been guessing that her power was going to be something with electricity and wouldn’t you know it’s fucking lightning. like just the way she described how her power felt in her body was a give away and then when she fist kissed Xaden and lightning struck and he ripped away i was like, wait was that her?!??? It probably was lol.

Welp it didn’t even matter that she didn’t willingly give Dain information about Xaden cuz he’s such a suck up and awful person that he invaded her privacy without her consent and fucked her and Xaden over yay

WHAT THE FUCK.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DIES?!?????
I LOVED LIAM! He was so sweet and kind and I actually couldn’t stop sobbing while I was reading. It was so fucking brutal and heart wrenching. I was crying hysterically and couldn’t stop or make myself calm down, I just kept sobbing I couldn’t breathe I was chocking on my sobs. I thought he would be safe for at least this book after he had his close to death thing earlier in the book but noooo. my bad. Like how am I supposed to get over this. I’m heartbroken. Out of all the friends that could have died him dying was the worst and cruelest one.

I didn’t really see the plot twist coming tho. It felt heavily red queen coded ngl. But nice hope he stays alive for at least one of the books but who knows. At least she has her brother back.

I’m obsessed with this book and I love all the characters. Except for yk the once we hate and despise like Dain, her mom, Jack. That was actually the only good thing to come out of this, Jack died and everyone was happy for it.

I did call the whole “oooo betrayal but it’s because the government is corrupt and she ends up joining the rebellion thingy” It was very predictable ngl and so was the fact that the venin thingys we’re going to be real but like that was just from the obvious foreshadowing.

Yeah I LOVED this book and if you’re a fan of books like red queen and or acotar I think you would very much like this book. It’s more like red queen coded and then just vibes of acotar if u want me to be more specific.

But fuck it sucks how the characters you love always die in fantasy books.

I LOVED this book!!!

It was so cute and amazing and just what i want from ya romance rivals/enemies to lovers book.

THE BUTTERFLIES I GOT FROM READING THIS BOOK!!!!!

OMG. I. WAS. OBSESSED.

HE WAS SOOOOOO CUTE AND UGHHH AND KILL ME PLSSS CUZ I WANT THAT. LIKE WHY CANT I HAVE THAT. THERE WERE SO MANY CUTE MOMENTS AND IT WAS SOOO GOOD.

It definitely gave if lara jean wrote hate emails instead of love letters.

WHEN HE CONSTANTLY SAYS AND DOES THINGS THAT SCREAM THAT HE LIKES HER I WANTED TO DIE FROM CUTENESS. Like when she almost passes out from running nonstop in the heat and he almost says that he only cares about her I was like awwww stop that’s so cute

This book took me wayyyy to long to finish. It might have been cuz I don’t particularly love Orion and Darcy together.

we get an interesting pov

Tory is struggling with her emotions a lot in this book. Specifically the ones she has for Darius.

I was really impatient when I got to this book and during it cuz I just wanted tory and Darius to fucking kiss, like just once. Like I was begging for them to give me something!!

I loved Tory but I became increasingly annoyed that she and Darius hadn’t even kissed yet. I was like I know it is a slow burn but COMMON just kiss already!!!

I do love how bitter Tory is.

I absolutely LOVED when Darcy had to pretend that she fucked Seth and went, “I did something stupid.” “Him.”. Like girl slayyy I laughed out loud like giggling and kicking my feet cuz the whole interaction was funny as shit.

Geraldine constantly rejecting Max is so fucking funny I was pissing my pants while reading it.

OMG! YESS! FINALLY!!! THEY KISSED!!! and some more but omg I’ve been waiting for three books now, THREE BOOKS! FINALLY!! But also wtf was the end LIKE HELLO?????

NOOOO I WANT THEM TOGETHER AND UR TELLING ME U MADE THEM STAR CROSSED LOVERS?!????
They actually hate me ffs

Yoo I have no words for this book. I’m just so stunned. Like it was really good, definitely not what I expected but that made it better.

I am obsessed with the love interest. I always fuck with morally grey characters like him.
Like they can be so fucked up but as long as they don’t actually harm the girl I’m so down

She is great too like she’s a bad bitch and I love that. I hate when they are super helpless it make me so mad but this girl has a spine and I was here for it.

Would deff recommend great dark romance book.

This was a vibe if you like dark romance books.

I really liked the obsessive and possessiveness of the love interest.

I do recommend to look at the trigger warnings for each of the books in this series tho cuz they differ and are dark and I hope you don’t push yourself to read something that will trigger you just cuz people say it’s good.

The way I didn’t expect to cry from this book. I felt so connected to Elsie and all her emotions hit me hard. The way her emotions are depicted is incredible, I could feel it all. I for once didn’t cry because someone died, which is kinda new for me, I cried when she found out she didn’t get the job. The emotions felt so raw and real and I couldn’t help but feel for her and resonate with her feelings as if they were my own. I love the way Ali Hazelwood writes her books and it’s always a fun read.

I already knew I would like this book since I loved “the Love Hypothesis” But I was more than pleasantly surprised when i never felt bored reading this book. It was interesting through and through. I haven’t read a book like that in a while and I’m overjoyed that this book delivered like this. I have actually been in a reading slump but this book has gotten me right back into it. I was obsessed with reading this book and really struggled to put it down. I loved this book!!!! 10 out of 10 would recommend. So light hearted with so much banter. Amazing read.

Also if anyone’s curious it’s is explicit and it was well written imo.
