The way of writing was interesting, at first it confused me a bit, but I actually really enjoyed it, as I felt it was like reading Frances' mind. I also loved how much detail there was in people's way of behaving or talking, it made more personal in a way.

In terms of the story, I was waiting for more events or plot twists to take place. But maybe it was intended to be completely focused on Frances thoughts throught this little story.

It was enjoyable and even relatable.

I am a huge RHCP fan and I have wanted to read this book for a ling time. I really enjoyed it.

Apart from understanding how the band was born I was able to learn more about how drug addiction works, what does it take to be sober for a drug addict, what's like to be a celebrity in L.A., etc.

I also loved learning about the connections with other bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam or Nirvana.

You can totally see A.K.'s development as an individual in how he tells all his stories, and I found that really refreshing.

This is not my type of book. At first I was not too keen on it. But I grew to like it more.

It's not my style in the sense that it's very poetic, many short stories, all quite vague and open to interpretation. There isn't much relation between all the stories, even though I know that's Cisnero's intention.

However, I liked how sexism, patriarchy, abuse and the life of being raised as a low-clas "latina" are told in this story. It is told through the lens of a young girl, who doesn't relly understand why things work like they do, but deep down she knows something's wrong.

I'd recommend it for people who enjoy reading poetic books that can be deeply analysed.

I liked the way you could feel transported to a different time in history. It made me imagine a bit better how life could be then and how religion and politics worked.
I really liked Aliena's character. She's an independant woman who achieved many things despite the fact of being a female in a male-dominant world. I also enjoyed reading about her relationship with Jack.

The thing I didn't like about this book is that the plot is quite basic. There are "good" and "bad" characters. When the good ones are achieving good thing, the bad ones come and do bad things. I found myself thinking 'ok, here we go again *sigh*...' many times throughout the book.

In conclusion, I'd prefer having a more complex plot for such a long book, but it was nice to read and feel like I was living in the past.
