Then I stumbled across the graphic novel, captivating my interest. The story did go by a lot faster but I just stopped caring somewhere down the line. About 60 percent in and I don't really care about this anymore.
I like that we are further introduced to this thing connected to M.
Seeing other types of characters with animalistic appearances was really cool. Especially M's family, for some reason I thought she was the sole member of the Halfwolves and was floored that a characteristics knew was her kin (not spoiling).
All I pray is that Little Fox stays unharmed because she puts so much trust into M. She better not break my favorite characters heart🥺🤬
I was worried and hesitation had arisen when Chet and Manual were going away to the Newpals Internship Onboarding.
It took a turn, finally introducing us to oneof Selena's friends, Skyla. Whom happens to be a mermaid. They meet up at an annual Spring festival for the Unfreezing.
Selena and Julie still show tension but it's not so much in the forefront. Julie struggles with her internal struggle of anxiety and her panic attacks.
It was cool seeing them travel by an underwater in a bus/train vehicle. Then continue by individual bubble🥰
We are introduced to more characters like a kitsune (awesome) and some fox mask wearing villians.
Good news!!! Cass finally reveals her vision and of course it's not good. I was so excited to hear what she saw and of course it was not straight forward. LITERALLY her purple mystical page at one point was both upside and backwards😂😭.
That plot twist at the end was quite sudden. Then sad with a sprinkle of a cliff hanger
Not only was this my favorite of this series so far... 1) they shortened the Pleasant Mountain Sisters and it was enjoyable 2) instead of the interviews after each chapter there was a crossword, wordsearch (fav) and other fun puzzles.
This book went much better than the 1st of this series (still unsure how many books they will continue with), though the transitioning is choppy.
I sat down and read it in sitting. I wasn't surprised that in the beginning when someone gets an invitation to an event, then I know something bad will happen.
I mostly enjoyed the artwork and sped read the actual conversation. I cannot stand that it still includes the "Sunny Days" comic -> CORRECTION: Pleasant Mountain sister *CRINGE* (even though it somewhat relates to 1 of the MC's). And ugghhhh to the "interviews" they feature after each chapter. I don't know it's purpose nor if they're fictional characters or ...tbh I just don't know.
I love how they zoomed in on the male and female elves boxing when they were not really featured. They just played a role of bounding people to their frat/sorority homes and having beef with each other.
And why is Cass"s character scarcely mentioned when she's the COOLEST and INTERESTING people (a Black witch who receives visions that surround the group of friends) ?!?!? She needs more focus on her instead of always seeing the lesbian werewolves who always seem to have drama and Chet who is obnoxiously narcissistic.
Literally, she gets off her break and Chet storms onto the scene trying to inundate her with all her problems and she continues sipping her coffee; which is so me...nobody's gunna interrupt my coffee time
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
5.0
Whimsy is such a loving and relatable character. For me, it was giving people folk/fairy tale nicknames like Blue Beard without the dead wives and the one with a sore throat, Ursula without the voice. So creative and witty.
Between that scene and Whimsy describing her jealousy of leaves knowing what they are. Saying: a leaf is always a leaf, after it yellows then golden and finally browns. A leaf is still a leaf even when my sneaker crushes it into Halloween cupcake sprinkles. Behold, I have found my new favorite analogy.
Whimsy addressing her mental health and working through the mystery of her older sibling along with Faerry felt liberating. They friendship alone made my heart blossom
I love the compound word play (it warmed my English major loving heart), magic and mystery We Are All So Good At Smiling envelops and could travel through this lush world over and over again.
The concept of this book felt refreshing, a group of authors from africa coming together and incorporating a piece of their writing. The book was fairly thin and I figured it would be a quick and easy read.
Sadly, I could not get into this book. I have tried many times, both through a physical copy and ebook. But it just did not interest me.
I was actually surprised that the title was only based on one of the twelve stories.
But looking back, I was probably turned off from the first story and that really let me down. That and it did not male sense nor relate to the title. I envisioned all the authors would come together and write a story of the "newlyweds" looking through their window and watching strangers. Similar to the rear window, except it's their first time as a married couple and they can briefly look out their window at strangers they can see from an apartment/skyscraper window.
Serine is a sweet character who adored her brothers and wanted to be taught to read. But, her mother did not care and wanted her tutored into being a proper lady.
She was horribly harassed and mistreated as the queens possible lady in waiting. I felt it was far too much dialogue...I became impatient and focused on then illustrations instead. It was quite beautiful.
