This book was absolutely mesmerising. I've never been so lost in time as I have in this novel. I actually purchased this sometime last year, around August and it sat on my bookshelf unread until the other day when I finally picked it up. I don't know why I put it off for so long, but my god was this perfect.
I placed myself next to Petronella in the streets of Amsterdam. The writing is breathtaking. It's not often that I can read a book set so long ago and find myself believing it, and still identifying with the characters.
I actually cancelled a trip to Sydney because I was so engrossed in this novel.
I adored this.
From back to front.

I read a lot, but this will stay with me for a long time.

I loved this.
Carrie Fisher, I love you. I simultaneously want you to be my mother and my best friend and also my wife.

Though extremely brief, this was a warm and heartfelt (and hilarious) snapshot into what essentially has been a very dark journey. I found myself wanting to know so much more, but at the same time also respecting her privacy enough to know that that's her business. So much of this woman's life has been made public knowledge, do we really need more detail?

I love the way she writes. It's engaging and she comes across as so warm and empathetic. As a massive Star Wars fan I have always loved Carrie Fisher, but this book confirmed my suspicions; she is an incredible woman.

I was kind of stuck between giving this 3 or 4 stars because it took me a little while to connect with the characters in this book, but once I did I literally could not put it down.
Also that was one of the most satisfying endings a book has had for a long time.

3.5 Stars.
This was really different and entertaining. And interesting to read from the perspective of someone so socially inept. Some moments were so cringeworthy and frustrating (the thing with the parking tickets!!!!!!) but on the whole this was a really enjoyable read and I loved the way that Leila matured and came into her own at the end.
