There were moments when this volume got me genuinely excited and amused, which is good enough to count as enjoyable in my book. The best parts are anything involving characters from the main series. The characters' personalities and dynamics are slowly starting to form, though they are still kind of hard to root for. And the entirely unnecessary, perverted jokes that keep reoccurring don't help at all. I mean, if a protagonist hesitates to attack villains whose sole purpose is to SA women because he opposes "kink shaming", I find it really hard to like him. That kind of humor just screams bad taste and misogyny.

The fans of the original manga series are probably the target audience, whereas I watched the anime mostly for the sake of finishing it. I was intrigued by the idea of a superhero society, though, and I started reading Vigilantes in the hopes that this series would take a different approach to it. Unfortunately nothing much happened in the first volume, so it’s hard to say if that will be the case. The main characters, esp. the unsurprisingly oversexualized teenage female lead, seem somewhat average and boring, but them being non-OP vigilantes is promising. My hopes are pretty low but I'm still willing to give vol. 2 a shot.

I wanted a well-written, unique murder mystery classic and that's exactly what I got. The concept was interesting, however, the novel is so insanely famous the ending had been spoiled to me before I even knew it existed. Furthermore, I did end up wishing there had been a clear protagonist to root for and more clues to provoke the reader's mind.
