Was enjoying this until the plot takes a very weird turn from Romance to Goonies?  This plot feels like when you were in elementary school and your teacher does a writing assignment where you write a sentence and then someone continues it and so on.  Except these two did that and decided to publish the story that what was somehow birthed from that insane process.  I was enjoying it, and then, around the 45% mark, we turn full Goonies, and I was uncomfortable, a little annoyed, and a little disgusted by the characters from that point forward. Still willing to try other books by these authors, but won't be recommending or returning to this one. Super disappointed too because I was really vibing with the outdoor adventure, horseback riding, girl-just-needs-some-$$-to-buy-back-the-family-ranch, second chance romance thing.

Thanks. Hated it. What a truly insufferable cast and writing style.

1.25 stars Got to the 45% mark and dnfed.   Hallie has had a crush on Julian since high school and now they are living in the same town again. Julian is attracted to her and we get his on page fantasy and him pleasuring himself to this fantasy.  Meanwhile, Hallie is a 29 year old virgin who is writing him anonymous love letters and mainly concerned about a local wine bar that is on the verge of going out of business.
There is a serious imbalance of sexuality between Hallie and Julian that started to make me angry and uncomfortable. Nothing of Hallie's, albeit limited, sexuality is shown on page until her first encounter with Julian. Hallie feels that her presence in Julian's life is just a nuisance.   He lets her believe this. I just couldn't continue reading especially after their first sexual encounter where he talks dirty to her and then lets her leave thinking that she did something wrong. Not the kind of dynamic I find romantic, intriguing, or worthy of my time as a romantic at heart.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

This is How You Lose a Reader. This novella is an ambling and dull narrative of correspondence between two sci-fi ladies on opposite sides of a war across time? The letters try to be funny,  but fall very flat.  The modes of communication are odd and not explained very well.  Picture, River Song writing "Hey Sweetie" into the side of a mountain, but worse.  I really thought the haters were just hatin', but I see they were right on this one.
