So I've been taking a dive into Extreme horror and this one wasn't bad at all.
In the beginning, there were a few times I had to go backward and forward as a random character turned up and who the husband was changed lol but after that it was smooth sailing.

For a short story it is very well written, the plot was smooth and fast and had a good pace. Some of the descriptions were extremely detailed so the imagery was amazing and very well done as well, and the house reminded me a little of Silent Hill.

Why is it three stars?
I wish it told us more of the lore of the house, as a splatterpunk it's not the goriest I've read. The world-building is pretty nonexistent and why is Judith obsessed with the fetus? so obsessed with them.

But the main thing is, I did enjoy reading it.
Would I re-read it? maybe.

The best thing about this is the unexpected ending.

My version of the book was full of spelling mistakes, grammar, and punctuation errors. Not only that, the writing in the book is huge with loads of space so a lot of paper was wasted just to make the book have 69 pages.

Some parts I guess you can say are "extreme horror" though I would say it's just random and has one thing that is disgusting.

Way back in 2012 I grabbed his book on the way to Uni from Waterstones. All by accident and chance, I didn't look at the author I just wanted something to read while I traveled.

The story was so titillating, that it popped my metaphorical cosmic horror cherry and got me into Lovecraft.
The way the story flows, and how it describes the little things that build up and up until everything just bursts into this ungodly crescendo. I love it.

Though it isn't as "short" as his other stories (like Dagon for example) and can seem that it's dragging (not always a bad thing), I always recommend this story.

booktok lied to me XD
not my cup of tea XD
within the first three pages, I had an Oh moment, closed the book, reopened it, and laughed because it was not what I expected.

not really a story to it. I need something with a story XD not just random smut about a beast that's like 18ft tall.

just my own personal opinion though. if its something you enjoy then read it. lol

This book...
It comes with a warning so be careful when you read it. if you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, or suffer from paranoia don't read the book, it can trigger you. It made me stop a few times but I f*cking love it to bits.

If you are into your horror and nasty things then this book is for you.

The author was very kind enough to send me the book to do a review. So not only thank you to Robert but let's start the review,

----

The story pretty much starts in a run, it hooked me in within the first few sentences and continues within the first chapter. Though in the second chapter it slows down a little bit, mainly to introduce and get a feeling for the characters that you meet.
That doesn't last long because as soon as it gets the chance to turn your head and go into a run it does, and constantly leaves you wanting more, to a point I continued reading the book until 3 am. (sad me)

It's paced so well, the characters have depth, personality, likes, dislikes, and fears.
Everything is so well written, there are no mistakes at all, and historically correct for the time it is set. The descriptions are so good that they are mouth-watering and leave you feeling titillated - wanting more to a point that I'm a whore for this book and can't wait to read more done by Robert Herold.

This book reminds me of The X-Files and sticks to its guns. I love it. I love the characters. and I can't wait to start on the next books.

I have already started to recommend the book to my friends, and I couldn't recommend it enough.

So I've heard this book is very much like marmite, you either love it or hate it.

I freaking loved this book and never got bored at all.
It's very much a homage, a big old hallelujah to scooby doo. (Tim is a good boy!)
The premise is basically the gang has grown up, and got their own fears, faults and trauma. They decide to get back together and re-look at an old case as it has stuck with them for 13 years, ruining a time that should have been amazing for them.

The characters have a full depth which I'm a whore, and LGBTQ+ representation that is positive which was nice.

The humor in this is fantastic, made me giggle a few bits and gasp the other times.
The action was beautiful and well done, sometimes it's hard to read action in books but it flowed so easily and smoothly that I really got into it.

Nothing felt forced but I do wish it was a series because I feel like I need more.

The only cons to this are that it would have characters talking normally and then BAM it's like a script and I have no clue why.
Also, this happened 3 times (I counted, and it's out of 442 pages) - it's like the author forgot about a space bar and it was just a line of words all jumbled up. it annoyed me a little bit, so that's why I lowered it from 5 to 4. Apart from that, I will more than likely re-read this book again

I would rate the book 4 out of 5

How do I even begin to describe and review this?
This book pretty much kept me on my toes, was gory, and descriptive and I loved every second of it. Love the characters, the depth was real and I loved the mixed media throughout the book. Very well done.

Nick cutter is very quickly becoming one of my top authors.
