---
I don’t read a lot of romance, but sometimes I like to read this genre between two fantasy novels… So I chose this book mostly for its cover I admit, it’s simply beautiful and so cute! Obviously the book description interested me, although for the moment I have never found romance who surprise me, a story where we do not know from the start that x will be in couple with y!
.
A little something different, however, has a touch of originality in his narration. The story is told from the point of view of the secondary characters: best friend(s), barista, waitress, squirrel, pizza delivery man, bench (yes yes, squirrel and bench, haha and they are my favorites).
.
I read this novel in english as part of my 2018 challenge which consists of reading much more in English! And I must say that it was an easy read. If you start reading english book, I strongly recommend it!
.
A fluid writing, a story really cute, but… the two main characters were, unfortunately, not so pleasant. A little too complicated, too many questions, they sometimes really annoyed me a little like Dawson (Tv show of the same name) who could manage to really exasperate me!
.
But I had a good time though, if you are looking for a little romance I strongly recommend this novel!

I just finished “Risen” the first book in the Blood Eternal series and it was very good! I previously read another book from the same author called “Life unaware”, it was not my favorite, but I wanted to give her another chance and I was right!

If you’re a fan of vampires, this series is for you. Although compared to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries in the description, I personally can’t see any similarities, except the fact that they included vampires.

From the first pages, I was totally hooked by the story. The writing is really smooth, pleasant and the action starts already in the first chapter. And if you know me, you’d know that I really don’t like books with long lasting introduction!

At the beginning, we follow a young girl named Charlie, who lives with her aunt Rachel since the death of her parents that she does not remember. They live isolated from the world, Rachel does not want Charlie to get out from their house, she even stops her from using a cell phone (it’s a total drama for a teenager!).

As I said above, the action begins very quickly. Strangers (“Monsters”, as Rachel used to call them) come to their home and kidnap Rachel. Charlie will soon learn that they were vampires… One of the vampires stays with her, for reasons that I let you discover. His name is Sebastian, and we will rapidly notice that he is quite different from the previous vampires we’ve met.

“Risen” is not a basic vampire story, without originality, no. Here, vampires are separated into 3 clans:

– The Mentis: those who kidnapped Rachel. They are really handsome.

– Corpus: these are ugly and eat EVERYTHING.

– The Anima: the most ‘humans’, they want to live in peace with humans.

This book will take us to the heart of a war between these 3 different clans, while Charlie will be looking for her aunt at the same time. We will also learn more about her and her past.

This YA novel was so good and super addictive! The characters were perfect and not cliché as it is often the case. Here, you will find: a romance (as I love them), friendship, blood and action.

“Risen” is excellent and I cannot wait to read more! 4,5/5

(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own)

The characters are perferct, I loved them all. The universe is just great and promises a lot for the future. The relationships (friendship and romance) in this first book are already very interesting. And the humor, with some well-placed sentence, is so good.

To begin with, I will say that TimeKeeper is a book belonging to the genre Steampunk. Here, the story takes place in England in 1875, in an alternative world, where phones, cars already exist and where homosexuals are accepted (it was not really the case in our world at that time as you all know!)

In Timekeeper, we will mainly follow Danny, a “clock mechanic” or a “timekeeper”, his job is to repair the clocks of cities of England (like Big Ben for example). These clocks are extremely important in this world since they control Time. A simple problem, a scratch or anything else can cause slowness in time, or disappearance of minutes / hours. That’s why you really have to take care of these clocks, you do not want to mess with Time.

We quickly learn that Danny lost his father (also a clock mechanic) a few years ago after an accident that happened when he was repairing a clock. Time suddenly stopped in this city, and the city was isolated from the world. No one has found a way to save them yet. They are trapped at that moment.

This is the primary goal of Danny, save his father! Traumatized by his disappearance, he also cut himself off from the world, he doesn’t go out and lives only for his work. Until the day he met a young man. A cute and sweet romance will then start.

During this period, many accidents happened with different clocks around London. Danny will try to understand what is happening and who is trying to mess with Time.

Timekeeper is a very well written novel, which hooked me in the first few paragraphs! Tara Sim built an alternative Victorian world that I loved, and I can’t wait to read more.
The characters are great, the plot is intriguing, and even if the action is not crazy, I wasn’t bored at all!

The book is sold as a mix of Stephen King and Stranger Things, I agree with this. The story reminds me a lot of Stephen King’s style (although there is nothing scary in here) and here we follow a group of teenager so you can see the comparison with Stranger Things.

Joey, the main character has just moved to Arizona, after his father got a promotion at Barnes and Noble. He has no friends in this new town (but will quickly make enemies). Soon, he will meet some teenagers around his age (13) : Bobby, Jim and Tara. And together they will call themselves the Outsiders Club. The story is told by Joey, he shares with us his memories of this time when he was only 13 years old, he is now an adult.

Their lives will change the day they discover an abandoned car in the forest. They try to open it, and discover tons of cash inside, like millions. By opening the trunk, they find a corpse, and obviously they went into full panic.

After that, everything is moving really fast, a lot of action on every single page. The writing is fluid and pleasant, we can easily project ourself into the story.

But, there is just a lack of originality, I was not surprised at any time, and in a thriller it annoys me a little … And I’m a bit “surprise” by the age of the childrens and their reaction, a lot of bad things is happening to them, maybe too many, but hey, why not!

To resume, “If you go down to the woods” is a novel that will convince fans of the genre. The reading was pleasant, and it’s finally the most important!

4,5/5
