big guy??? BIG GUY??!!?? THAT is the term of endearment we’re going for…really?
emotional reflective

a reflective memoir about grief, identity, and adventurous eating. michelle struggles with her identity, half-Korean, half-American, in the small North-West town she grew up in. she clings to her mother as her tie to her Korean identity, and bonds with her mother through food.

this memoir is a poignant exploration of grief and relationships. michelle must cope with her mothers premature death, reckoning with her relationship with her mother through her teenage years.

this book will make you want to try new food and make your own kimchi. it will force you to reflect on your own grief and losses in life, and asks you to look through the lens of her life being asian-american. a well done and endearing memoir.

holy fucking shit.

this book is one of the best series continuations i have ever read. i rated red rising a 4.5⭐️ and was utterly convinced that it would be the best book in the series, as that is was one of my highest rated books from all of last year. golden son managed to one up red rising in strides.

darrow is truly one of my favorite series main characters. he is utterly flawed, which simply encouraged me to root for him. he is hardened and cruel, but has a kind heart. he is a main character you simply want to see succeed.

the world building of this series is remarkable and the political intrigue is gripping. there is betrayal and backstabbing and love.

this book has everything i could want, and more, from a science fiction novel.

this shit felt like a warm hug.

i listened to this as an audiobook and the narration delightful. it was also really great because of the several footnotes, just makes it easier to read.

i wouldn’t call this book a favorite, it was just simply enchanting, in a cozy kind of way.

i pushed through the shadow and bone trilogy because i kept hearing that the six of crows duology was worth it. and it is - understanding the Grishaverse helped me dive head first into this book

and BOY what a wonderful book this was. i fell in LOVE with these characters. i adored literally every single character. i wish waylon had POV chapters, but alas, the depth and differences of the characters kept my heart beating.

i genuinely LOVED this book

This is a god-tier romance novel. I will compare every romance novel I read to this book until the end of my days.

This book will make you believe in love and yearn for passion. Eva and Shane are both writers, who have been keeping one another in their lives through their writing. This book deals with trauma and has a long list of trigger warnings. It touches upon heavy topics gracefully and captures the human experience beautifully.

I am genuine when I say this is a god-tier romance novel. The author discusses things like drug and alcohol addiction, chronic pain, and neglect. This book does not shy away from harsh realities and traumas but is still a passionate and beautiful love story. I was pacing around my kitchen, jumping up and down, during certain scenes of this novel. I wanted these characters to have happiness so fucking badly.

You will not be able to get me to shut the fuck up about this book.

The ending of this book had me f**ked up, my god. I sobbed twice towards the end of this book, and if you are a person with a knack for empathy, you probably will, too. Usually, a book with this much societal commentary and intriguing plot would be a 5-star read for me, but this one was hard to get into.

The multiple POVs in this book were interesting and allowed you to develop understanding in every capacity, but they did not allow you to become too invested in any characters. The disturbing facts thrown in throughout the story about the American prison system were valuable, and if it is a topic you are not well-read about, it can be eye-opening.

This is a book I would recommend to someone who wants a socially valuable, inventive fiction book. It is also a book I would recommend to someone who wants an abstract or basic introduction to the wrongs of the American prison system. It is a creative, dystopian exploration of the system.

this book, and the second, definitely redeemed this series for me a bit. well, i should said Nikolai saved this series for me. easily the most interesting character, i was happy to see more of him. also in this book, getting more depth from the darkling definitely added some umph to it. i still found alina kind of a “meh” main character, but i liked mal more and more as the series progressed

a notable improvement from the first book, i think Nikolai really saved this book for me. easily my favorite character and by far the most interesting character, followed closely by the darkling.

emotional reflective slow-paced

this is a book i will recommend to people - it’s a book that i feel everyone should read. it forced me to step inside other people’s shoes and find empathy and understanding, but it also forced me to step outside myself and grapple with my own thoughts and feelings.
