this book was absolutely unhinged. i listened to the audiobook and had to take a few breaks during more of the graphic torture scenes.
the mystery aspect was well-done, although i found several parts of it a little predictable.
overall it was well-done though and a good thriller

did i think i would find myself going feral over 5 novellas from kindle unlimited? no. did i, in fact, go feral? yes. i injected these books into my brain.

an addicting mystery/thriller, with a serial killer main character i couldn’t help but root for. my only real complaint with these was that the love between lana & logan didn’t seem totally believable at times, and felt like it escalated so quickly.

otherwise i am obsessed with these

this book was not at all what i was expecting. i was expecting more of a mystery/thriller, and this book is not at all those things.

more realistically, i believe this book is a portrait of grief, how various individuals deal with grief, and an interesting look into family dynamics.

i listened to this as an audiobook and it is really a very short book, a novella. it was interesting, and very emotionally provoking at points. but overall i did not feel any type of way for any characters, and struggled to figure out their motives/purpose in many scenes. hence the 2.5⭐️ rating - i found this book to be perfectly average. i’m not upset i listened to it, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to someone. average, if not a little disappointing. don’t go into it looking for a mystery/thriller!!!!!

my two favorite non-fiction books last year were educated (a brilliant memoir, highly recommend) and under the banner of heaven (john krakauer doesn’t miss) and i’m left with this thought after also finishing this book: what the FUCK is UP with mormons

I tend to not enjoy celebrity memoirs, but this one was truly an exception. Not only did I feel like I was peeking behind the curtain at the fucked up world of Hollywood/child acting, but Jennette's story is all the more fucked up when you add her mother into the mix. Is it possible to resent a woman you have never met and who is currently dead? Yes. Yes, it is.

This book was so disturbing in so many ways but made all the more so because I was an iCarly fan in my childhood. It honestly almost made me feel guilty for loving the show so much, thanks to the trauma it inflicted upon both Jennette and the other actors who were traumatized by Dan Schneider. I know this is not a realistic way to look at the situation, but I am so glad that Jennette felt comfortable sharing her life in this way.

this book was fun. it’s a nice third book in the saga and i’m excited for the fourth book. overall, i had fun reading it and ATE the first 3 books UP.

that being said. i have some beef with this book. first of all, i’m a bitch who loves foreshadowing, it makes me feel smart. but my god there were certain points in this book that made me feel like the author was smacking me upside the fucking head with foreshadowing. and she used diem to make these observations, that were so fucking obvious, except diem was too fucking stupid to realize what was happening? you cannot make diem’s entire personality being a healer and then have her miss blatantly obvious signs that she acknowledges throughout the book.

i was not a HUGE diem fan throughout the first two books, but this one really killed me. she is one of the most annoying main characters i’ve ever experienced, and her decisions continued to annoy me throughout the book. there is absolutely no reason for half of this shit.

i love luther, dearly, a shadow daddy through and through. but i have had quite enough with the declarations of love. like i get it, but there’s no need for this many pages dedicated to saying the same shit he done been saying.

this book had me literally screaming in frustration. why must the characters be so aggravating?

more interesting than the first book (ie. more luther less henri) and i still enjoyed it. scratched the itch that throne of glass left me with, which was nice. i love badass FMCs, but i have to admit diem isn’t my favorite. i can’t quite puzzle together her stubbornness with her blatant naivety and at points it makes her a blatantly unlikeable character. overall though she isn’t bad, and for majority of the book i did like her.
luther. like i said in my review of the first book, id give it all up for luther.

overall this was a fun book i really enjoyed, and i can’t wait to start the third one !

oh boy
well. this book was recommended to me by a few different people, and i wanted to give it a try. unfortunately for me, i went into it with high expectations. that was my first mistake.

the book was fine. honestly. it was fun at times, and the concept was rather enjoyable. the execution, on the other hand, was underwhelming. i felt no strong attachment to the characters or the world in general. i was not impressed by the world-building, and found myself a little confused at parts. the grisha was the main confusion, as the inner-workings of the group, as well as the magic system as a whole, was largely skimmed over. i found myself hoping for Alina’s interactions with the Darkling over and over, as he was genuinely one of the most (if not THE most) interesting character. there were a few twists and turns, which i was anticipating but still managed to surprise me, which was nice.

*spoilers*************

like i said earlier, for the majority of the book the only thing that caught my interest truly was Alina’s interactions with the Darkling. the book finally did get interesting when Alina left and was found by Mal, and their interactions and chemistry were enjoyable. nothing remarkable, but i found myself (for the first time in the book) rooting for Alina to some degree. although i did have trouble grasping the turn-around in Mal’s attitude.

**********ok i’m done*

regardless, i was glad that this book was short and sweet. it definitely could’ve been longer and added more detail, but any longer with the way it was written and i would’ve DNF’ed it. overall, it wasn’t horrible. i was disappointed, but not overall upset i read it. i will likely forget the characters in a few weeks and need to look back at my review to remember wtf happened (yes it really was that memorable) but i will likely finish the rest of the series. i am not going to rush to read the series, but will probably get to it soon 🤷🏼‍♀️

when i picked up this book, i truly did not think i would much like it. it was originally recommended to me as a fantasy series, as i have a deep love for fantasy. after purchasing, i read a few reviews and realized it might not be quite what i wanted. i went in with low expectations, and then i read the book in 4 days.

there was so much i loved about this book. the world building is remarkable and made me feel like i was truly transported into the book. i loved the characters. none were perfect, but they felt real. there was clearly a TON of research that went into the writing of the book, and the historical details are wonderful. this book simply transported me into the world, and i felt like i developed a deep attachment and love for the characters.

a few complaints i read about the book was the length, and tangents that the author goes into outside of the overarching plot. i do not disagree, and there are definitely points in the book where there is much added, for little purpose or pay-off. BUT, this genuinely didn’t bother me. i felt like even those points, without much being added to the plot, there was still much being added in terms of the characters. i felt like i was truly getting to know the characters, no matter the circumstance, and did not much feel like i was “reading.” which is my favorite feeling in the world.

so while i can acknowledge faults in the book, i loved it. it might not be everyone’s cup of tea (and definitely more of a historical fiction than a fantasy), but it is a 5 star read for me.
