This book was a devastating masterpiece. It’s honestly hard to sit here and put my thoughts together on it, and I think it’s going to stick with me for a while.

Where most dark romances feel thrilling in the risk factors and obsessive MMCs, this love story delivered on the excitement but also carried so much emotional trauma and heaviness. The trigger warning list is a mile long, and responsibly so. There are so many moving pieces, broken up into 3 main acts, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a denser plot.

Overall, it’s giving an unhinged and suicidal Batman, with a final gut punch to the heart. Fellow readers beware, you will require an entire box of tissues 😭

I already knew I was going to love this book going into it, and was excited to see what parts were different or altogether left out from the movie. The characters were iconic, the humor was cheeky, and the yearning was heart melting ❤️

This fluffy queer romance was a step above “closed door”, with vague sexual references and non explicit language. For my personal rating purposes I did not find it very spicy, but for a non smut reader it probably seemed like a lot.

Second in the Into Darkness series, this highly anticipated book exceeded my expectations! While still a dark rom-com, the novel didn't have quite the same tone as Lights Out, mostly because of the difference in the character's personalities. As much as I loved Josh in the first book, I was relieved and appreciative that it didn't feel like a copy & pasted MMC and made for a good separation between the two books. This book was also a lot more explorative in the world of kinks, identities and orientations than its predecessor, creating a very sex positive message. The buildup of sexual tension between Lauren, by far the most confident FMC I've ever read, and Nico, previously sheltered by his rather misogynistic mafia upbringing, blossomed at the perfect rate.

I am very intrigued to see where the final installation of this trilogy goes, with the brief setup of Tyler & Stella’s introduction in the final pages.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Chef’s kiss, no notes, I'm obsessed! I always enjoy reading, otherwise, why would I do it, but this book was the most fun I've had reading in a while. I could tell within the first chapter this was going to be 5 🌟

Josh was an absolutely hysterical MMC, with his internal monologue, stalking habits and response to his “accident” with Brad. Aly was an equally likeable character, quick witted and cunning with both successful and failed attempts to stay one step ahead of her masked man. There were so many points in this book that had the opportunity to be predictable, but the author always took a different direction than I anticipated and kept the plot exciting from cover to cover.

I have to be honest here, I found this series a little frustrating. I enjoy teen/YA romances, I enjoy enemies-to-lovers, and I enjoy Penelope Douglas, but I couldn’t find myself connecting with these characters enough to earn a full 4 ⭐️s. As much as the hate-to-love theme is usually a hit for me, a lot of the supporting tropes were a bit of a drag; miscommunications, cocky teenage boys that constantly hurt or sabotaged their partners, and their respective girlfriends that forgave them with barely any groveling.

This YA murder mystery was a thrilling ride that kept you guessing all the way to the end. From an unsolved disappearance  and a seemingly unreliable narrator, the twists & turns and themes explored made for quite the entertaining whodunit. The formatting of this book was very unique, the story was not only split into then and now portions, but was told through multiple perspectives; first person, third person, and podcast transcript. This didn’t make for a confusing read as you might imagine, but rather made it feel more 3 dimensional and modern.

As we all should know by now, anything by Brynne Weaver is an automatic read for me. I have enjoyed her standalones just as much as her series, and can always expect notes of rom-com tied into her murderous plotlines. This dual author book was a debut for Harlowe, and their writing styles blended perfectly together; it’s impossible to tell where one voice ends and the other begins.

This novel was a little different than Weaver’s usual trope of serial killers chasing after other serial killers, but rather this FMC is hunting down a cult, much like the one she escaped from. We also usually see more of a teamwork effort between the main couples in her books, whereas this duo is unknowingly competing for the same target, which was a refreshing and engaging changeup.

Everything about this read hit the mark for me; the characters, the professor and student dynamic, the vengeance, and of course the spice, both in amount and quality. I can’t wait for my next hot & murderous adventure with Weaver, and hope to find more from Harlowe down the line!
