"In the Lives of Puppets" is a cute, heartfelt story, definitely a little on the strange side, but nothing wrong with that. It was quite whimsical. I found it easy to connect with all the characters, and they each had their own unique personalities and traits that played well into the story. The pacing was great – a perfect rainy day book if you are in the mood to try something a little different. As always, Klune's books feature found-family, discovering oneself through adventure, and learning how to do hard things but never alone.

This would have been a 5-star read if the last 15–20% of this book simply did not exist because that was cruel af Rebecca. This book has it all: military romance, dual POV, a slow burn, he-falls-first, a grumpy-but-sweet-to-her MMC, and emotional trauma (and a lot of it). I can see why y’all love Fourth Wing with a burning passion (I have not read it…yet). This book is quite similar to The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks with the themes and tropes, except the smut is better written. I will warn you: if you want a happy ending, do not finish this book. That third-act breakup was suspiciously early, and it was so Rebecca could RIP YOUR HEART OUT UNNECESSARILY.

Official short review: the only thing I was down bad for in the book was Martha’s husband and this book wasn’t even a romance.

This book was presented to me a mystery and I assumed as much from the various posts. I quickly and painfully realized how wrong I was. I wanted to DNF this book at multiple points, it took me 5 DAYS to read this. The mystery aspect of this novel was the only thing keeping me invested out of the Martha’s husband devotion to her, and it felt like a ruse that let me down.

If you choose to read this be prepared for the slow pace of a historical fiction formatted like diary entries which, in fact, made me want to rip my hair out. Along with aggressive amount of characters that I simply stopped keeping track of. This wouldn’t be such a harsh criticism if the author’s note had been placed at the front of the book vs the end.

With respect to Ariel Lawhon, I would have much rather read a 350-page historical romance novel about Martha and her husband because the way she wrote Martha’s husband has me down bad.

I smiled and giggled my way through this whole book. These characters are so lovable, unique, and incredibly funny in their own ways.

My only criticism is that I felt this book could be 100 pages shorter. It started quickly; however, most of the book read like you were floating through it without much substance.

For the final installment of the Green Creek series, I was expecting a gut-wrenching, ugly-crying finale—but it didn’t quite deliver the way the first three books did.

Told from Carter’s POV (I was hoping for Gavin’s), the storyline felt a bit too much like a repeat of book two. Honestly, much of this book could have been wrapped into an extended version of book three, in my opinion.

That said, I can’t stress enough how much I loved this series as a whole. Green Creek is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with queer representation and a light fantasy vibe that’s absolutely perfect. I’ll definitely be buying the entire series in hardback—and every TJ Klune book, for that matter.

Reading this is equivalent to being wrapped in a cozy blanket with a hot cup of tea. This cute, cozy fantasy is meant to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. A full review can be found via @kennedys_bookshelf page, and I’ll share it in my stories.

This book is a sharp contrast to his Green series, in which every book seeks to emotionally ruin you in a different way. I’ll be reading the final book soon and immediately following up with the second in this series, Somewhere Beyond the Sea.

this book had it all, the family drama, betrayal, self discovery (if you’re into that sort of thing), enemies to lovers, the pining, THE LIBRARY SCENE that had me giggling, squealing and kicking my feet.
