One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

It wasn't outstanding or a complete masterpiece - but I was entertained and had a good time so that counts as Very Good in my book.
I was so pleased by all the characters actually growing. And I was so mad at myself I didn't even THINK of the twist the story had with the perp. How did I not get it?!
Okay, to be fair, this is not meant to be a detective novel. You're not getting the pieces to think of everything yourrself, you are following a story here, the story of our very likeable protagonists. I really did like all of them though. Cooper was such a good sport.

Okay so the first 50% of the book I was so frustrated by how slow it was going. I was wondering if I should give it 2 stars, but the explanations of Cady's migraines were so beautiful I was willing to maybe give it a 3 star rating.
Also I could never stop thinking of the characters as the Ushiromiya family from Umineko. On their island. Fighting about inheritance and stuff. Could never get it out of my head.
Then the last 30% of the book happened and. Well. I went in blank, I knew nothing about it and I am so very glad. Spoilers ahead.
You know, I just wish there weren't obvious problems like... the little sibling mentioning Mirren or the aunt being able to see Johnny. Is this an error? Are they so traumatized they could also see them? It's not impossible I'd say but I'd have liked to be sure it was just in Cady's mind, I guess.
Also the first 50% were STILL hard to get through and full of uunnecessary things I've already forgotten.
Okay, but: THAT FORMATTING. I was so pleased. My reading pleasure went up by like 30% instantly.

So there was this atmosphere, right? I was frustrated cause NOTHING WAS HAPPENING and I needed answers. Something horrible happened. I can feel it. But WHAT. There are no hints, I need to know! Something really terrible must have happened. Very. Horrible. It kept me going, and then it threw THAT TWIST in my face. I gasped out loud because I absolutely love books that mess with my head and expectations like that. It was great and that's why were at 4 stars now.You know, I just wish there weren't obvious problems like... the little sibling mentioning Mirren or the aunt being able to see Johnny. Look, friends, I must tell you to read this. The story isn't going anywhere, it is really just a biography of our hero, but still it is filled with everything you could ever want. Mostly, the writing makes up for any lingering sense of 'Not enough HAPPENING' because it is just THAT beautiful. It is LONG and yet I would recommend this even to friends who loathe reading.
I am writing this half a year after first having read it so I did forget a lot of things or mixed them up with content of the second book - but I DO remember it being absolutely mesmerizing and sucking you into the world of Kvothe.

This was. So. Beautiful.
For the whole course of this book I was flung back violently to the time /I/ was 15, angry, sad, hated myself, was ashamed of everything, and wanted nothing more than to disappear and find myself.
As a teen with intense identity issues... this hit extremely close to home.
The way this was written, the feelings, the turns, the conflicting emotions... growing up is difficult. Coming to terms with yourself, with your wants, sexuality, your very personality - it's confusing. It's hard. And this is a perfect representation if you ask me.
I love that these boys are introverts but not in a bad way. God, just thank you so much for this book. I love it so very much.

I did not enjoy myself very much, the story was made up of cliches and Aldrik is simply a bossy jerk. Vhalla is not a bad protagonist, I give her that. Her focus on romance when her country is at war and her whole life gets turned upside down - now that was unnecessary.

Mr. Rothfuss, you are the master of my heart and I want you to come take it. With the third one, if at all possible.

Nun, man bekommt genau, was in der Beschreibung steht.

This was awful and if I ever have to see it again ti will still be too early. Absolutely pathetic. Hannah was literally just being a horrible human being to everyone.
