This was super fun!
And I really liked the narrator, so that was nice.

Yin and yáng, good and evil, great and terrible, kings and tyrants and heroes and villains. The tropes in the classics of old are but a matter of perspective. Really, they are two sides of the same coin. He who lives to tell the tale decides which side to pick.

This was fun! It did drag in the beginning and middle since there was so much info but it picked up in the end and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Lan lifted her gaze to the man who had killed her mother and destroyed her kingdom. "Look at me," she hissed in their language, "so even when we pass into the next world, you'll not forget my face."

This was such a badass moment! Of course, it was kinda ruined because this asshole never dies, but still, throwing herself off a cliff to kill the Winter Magician by dragging him with her, very badass.

"I knew you wouldn't mind. Being my precious toy. My girl. Mine to use. Mine to fuck. Mine to destroy and to fix."

A spicy fucking masterpiece. But I'm always a fan of the way Ali writes spice so *wiggle*

"I don't know why it's such a turn-on, that you're so much smarter than me, but every time we have a project meeting, I have to go home and jerk off until my dick is raw."

Like I said, spicy. This also has a dom-sub power relationship (among other kinks) and while it's not usually my thing, it was my thing in this book lmao

You're fucking adorable, Scarlett." He tilts my chin up. Another kiss. This time on the tip of my nose. "It makes me want to wreck you."

Infinity stars.

"Because sometimes I can't breathe when you're around."

I am melted goo on the floor.

"I fuck you because you're the most perfect thing I've ever felt, Scarlett."

I think I tabbed half the book lmao Perfection. Relatable. Sob worthy.

"I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I'm usually overthínking something. Desperately trying to avoid screwing up and working myself up to a panic." Am I taking up too much space? Boring you? Disappointing you? Would you rather be somewhere else, with someone else? Overwhelmed by the burden of wondering whether I'm doing it right."

^ Me to a tee

I cannot emphasize how much I loved Scarlett's anxious introverted mind. So many thought processes and comments were so similar to mine. Ali Hazelwood is seriously good at putting mental illness on page and making it relatable. Every book has good rep for this and I eat it up because it's basically my brain in a book lmao

Also, the wit and comedy, the banter, just *chefs kiss* like normal

ALSO also Olive and Adam, hi bebes

Okay, I'm done now because this was 90% quotes and I have more so let's stop here 😂

Io wondered how long justice could sustain a dying body

This was mostly as exciting as book 1, and I still had a lot of fun reading it! I didn’t see the twist at the end coming, which honestly doesn’t mean much, I don’t think ahead often 😂 but it was super surprising. The world building was lacking still and Bianca and her sisters…I dunno.

Overall, would recommend this duology!

It was all Thais:
Thais hurting her, then Thais dressing the wounds she had inflicted.

I dunno how I feel about this book. Parts were over the top and "I'm A bAdAsS" but it was quick and fast-paced, so...I dunno.

There is violence in kindness, and kindness in violence.

This was super interesting! I liked the writing, the characters, and the plot.

His breath warmed her nape, and she could smell the sweet detergent of his clothes. Do not, she scolded herself, be weird.

There was a lot of lore, or background or history etc and it was a little confusing at times, lots of gods and prophecy but overall, this was so fun! I don’t think I’ve read anything like it and that is super refreshing!

I’m like 99.9% this was set on Earth after a catastrophe (the moon splitting into 3 and basically sinking the world) but there were times where I was like, IS this Earth because what the fuck lmao

Collapse was the gods' punishment. Humankind might be surviving at the moment, but the gods would always win in the end.

The thing I really didn’t like? The MMC has a girlfriend. I do not read books with cheating, physical or emotional, and that aspect was a huge turn off. (view spoiler)

Why did other-born need to prove their worth to the world by servicing a city that kept pushing them to the fringes whatever chance it got?

“Why would I feel bad for you? All I ever wanted was for you to notice me.”

This was a quick, fun read about a sorta second chance romance where Rachel and Daniel had a falling out right before they graduated high school and haven’t seen each other in 20 years. They meet again at the 20-year high school reunion and it’s basically a disaster lmao

“How did you put up with the melodrama?” I groaned, thinking about all the stupid stuff I complained about when we were teenagers.
“I didn’t put up with anything. I listened because it mattered to you.”

There are cactus spikes in butt cheeks, security interruptions, car crashes, and lots of running around and poor Rachel, who showed up 30 minutes early to the reunion, ends up late anyway after all that. But at least she was with Daniel during the running around.

“I guess we’re never too old to be young and dumb again.”

It was super refreshing to read about characters in their late thirties instead of early twenties, it was nice that they were older than me for once lmao

Also, I dunno why I was assuming no spice but there was spice! So, yes, that was great lmao

“You slept through most of our tutoring sessions.”
“I was listening. I liked the sound of your voice. I still do.”

The negatives: while I liked Daniel, I didn’t really like Rachel. She was childish, shallow, and mean (it was pointed out a lot, so it’s not like other people, and herself, weren’t aware) and it was super annoying. She did grow up, I guess, by the end, but her attitude was just really off-putting for like 70% of the book.

Thank you Fierce Reads, Colored Pages Book Tours, Netgalley, and the author for this eARC and physical copy for review.

May there be future dawns

I think maybe I don't like how Marie Lu writes endings/sequels.
