More earnestly romantic then I thought it'd be. I would've like more pages near the end to ruminate on what happened, and more stuff on how the MC's deafness affects her daily life outside of bullying but I still really liked it
Incredibly thoughtful and well elaborated novel, the world felt so lived in and imaginative. I loved hearing the characters talk about history and who writes it
My gosh this book was a pain to finish. This is the 2nd book I've read by this author (the 1st was Un Lun Dun) and I really think it's cool how he can make up these extravagant worlds which have so much thinking about them. For this book, I have to say I was disappointed that Lin was gone the second part of the novel. I wouldn't have been that upset if she took over the 2nd half rather than Isaac, especially since its like she has a more clear antagonist character in her side of the story. Isaac couldve been a hostage and Lin couldve thought him dead? Or something? And then Yag's... crime couldve hit her especially hard, since shes an sa survivor I probably won't read the sequel, if there is one, since I think this book is soo soon long but I really enjoyed learning about the bureaucracy of this world
Delightful story about an urban witch moving in with her rural cousins and the kind of magic the commonplace brings. The manga isn't a romance (which I count as a plus) and has the protagonist mostly messing around in her new environment. I love how when some weird magical thing is happening, or a magical person appears, everyone is astonished, but the witch is casually like, “Ah! So you've met [so-and-so spirit],” or is like, “whoops, I forget that happens" (Is currently levitating 7 feet in the air on a broomstick). It's slow paced but in a good way, I took my time reading it.
