Not only is the queer representation a relief, but the setting is super fun. And the conflict feels realistic and relatable (usually in romance novels it can feel so contrived). Not only that but there are so many examples of how to incorporate consent in a super sexy way.
4* because there were a few elements that I wish were flushed out a little bit more. Part of the ending felt rushed and tacked-on but could have done well with some better foreshadowing.

I thought it would be just so sad. But this book didn’t make me sad, it filled me with strength and validation and power.
And on top of that it’s so beautifully written. She uses metaphors in incredible ways—reminding me of Anne Lamott.

Moderate: Miscarriage, Pedophilia

But I have to say that there are some incredible books that center on the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's written by Black authors that I'd recommend much sooner.
I feel uncomfy with certain details of Black death and racial slurs coming from the pen of a white writer.

Minor: Animal death
Also I wish there was an option for a Covid content warning.
