A super fun indulgent read when you ignore how the entertainment industry actually works. Wish the story had lasted over a long weekend instead of a few weeks. That was defiantly the hardest part to ignore, no group is going to stay in a foreign city for weeks to prepare for one festival set. Staying in LA to record a new album for a month would have also been more believable. The ending felt super rushed and I think it could have benefited leaving the epilogue as a sequel where Elena works on repairing her relationship with her twin. It was well written and I loved the characters. I wish we had dived into more of them, especially Josie, Felicity, and Ethan.

I've been reading Holly Black since I was a child and I was extremely excited when I saw she was writing her first adult novel. Holly is an extremely gifted world builder, especially with her fae related novels. Sadly the world building felt very lack luster in this book. The magic in this book, while very simple, made absolutely no sense to me. It frustrated me at the start of the book because I felt like I should have instantly understood it. I do think the magic has an interesting start and if this book is continued as a series could be fleshed out much better in a sequel. Charlie was the quintessential Holly Black character, and at times I kept forgetting she was an adult because I am so used to her main characters being extremely independent teenagers. Her main character stereotype works so well as an adult though! I found all the flashbacks very interesting but the present day chapters tended to drag for me. A slightly predictable ending but an overall enjoyable read once I got over not understanding the magic system.

I just love this series so much. Padmé has been my favorite Star Wars character since I was a child and I was thrilled when the first book in this series came out and overjoyed with every installment since. I never want them to end. This was a great addition with the added tension of Anakin and Padmé's marriage and all the handmaidens growing apart from Padmé into their own people. It was well written and does not contradict with the already established canon. A perfect palette cleanser after the Obi Wan tv series.

This was a super cute fun quick read. It's nice finding lighthearted queer stories geared towards teenagers. Great representation with nothing overly heartbreaking or falling into harmful stereotypes.
informative medium-paced

This books reminds me a bit of when I was a kid writing my first research papers for school. I wanted to add everything slightly interesting I found in my research even if it was barely related to my topic. Which then needed to be edited down to a singular focus. This book could have benefited from major editing.
There are a lot of interesting tidbits thrown in with no rhyme or reason. The book also jumps around so much and there is no continuous thread to follow. I won't lie I skimmed the chapter on yacht racing and was almost ready to give up at that point. However the tone drastically changes once the topic of Anderson's mother Gloria Vanderbilt comes up.
I almost suspect that Anderson had wished to write a novel about his mother but the publishers pushed for the Vanderbilts in large, who Anderson did not care enough for.

I'm not the biggest fan of The Minotaur or Dionysus so I was not expecting much from this book but I had heard good things about it. The book started off slow but it soon picked up momentum and was hard to put down. I was pleasantly surprised by it. It felt like a YA book written at an adult reading level.
