This was one of my required readings for my English class and I’ve been wanting to revisit it since then, mostly because I could not remember anything that happened
Now reading it again, this is definitely a must read
Morrison’s writing can be a bit dense and overly poetic when trying to distinguish whose POV were in but it’s not a criticism to her at all and more so just me trying to get used to her style
It’s clear why this is on the banned books list and I think it’s great at opening discussions about race, class, abuse, poverty and privilege
The forward of this books says “This book demands that I look at this world without turning away….I know the things that happen in Parable of the Talents have happened before, are happening now, can happen again.”
Not only does this book show accurate depictions of our future but it also provides ways of coping with unprecedented changes
great Halloween read, tbh if I were to compare this to the movie I’d probably give it a 3 star. One of the very rare cases where I think the film does a better job capturing the whimsy and thrilling aspects
Another reread, I liked this more the second time, probably bc I forgot most of what happened. But also bc I love a good book with dark atmospheric fall mystery vibes (even tho I think this takes place in winter). I listened to half of this on audio and I really liked the narration
This I my first re-read of this book. I’m not usually one to pick up a mystery book more than once just bc all the fun of solving the mystery is kind of taken away since I already know what happens. But I remember giving this 5 stars the first time I read it so I thought it’d be nice to return to. I still enjoyed it, maybe not as much as the first time but I would definitely still recommend reading
this was one of my most anticipated reads back in 2021 and I’m just now reading it lol
As someone who loved Evelyn Hugo and Daisy jones….this was kinda mid.
This was basically daddy issues: the book. In the beginning I was intrigued by the sibling dynamics but later I found myself more times than not skimming over pages of each characters struggles/wants and just wanted to be done with it. I did not like the writing in the sense that it was strange and overly sweet at times. Like why am I being told things are happening and not being shown of said events occurring.
Idk what I was expecting from this but it was very underwhelming. That ending made me roll my mf eyes. Also the way everything is wrapped up all nice with a bow was just too hallmark-y
I was thinking of giving this like 3 stars but the more I think about it, that’s probably too generous and I know I’ll probably never read this again. However I’ve heard good things about Carrie Soto is Back so I might pick that one up.
