Beautifully written, however the ending, despiste being unpredictable, left me a bit unsatisfied. Algo, the characters needed a bit more work. All this non comunicative and riddled Verónica annoyed me and seemed a bit nonsensetical
I need Joanne Harris to write more fantasy books. She really is my favorite author, the one who got me back into reading, the one who makes me feel the magic through words and stories. I love her way of telling stories. She really is magical and warms your heart. Thank you for writing these books, you are truly a blessing o me. About this book, I think it was a great way of introducing me to norse mythology. I really know nothing about it, except for what I've watched on Marvel movies. I went on searching for the gods a few times and loved to see that some characteristics were included here, namely Lokis' stitched scars. There was humor, there were sad moments, happy ones, a bit of everything. I think I found a new favorite.
It seems like lately I've been choosing books that I can't rate. It's hard to try to rate this kind of book, because it's horrifying to even think that THIS still continues to happen somewhere. This is multiple realities. How does one rate that? How can one simply say that this book is sooo good when the plot itself is hard to digest? The writing style was not really my thing, the characters aren't loveable. It should've dwelved more into the themes, not sure if I can say that it is at the same time a superficial description and gives a small glimpse into the deep cruelty and self preservation and own interests of human beings. It is frustrating.
I can't rate this book. It's impossible. I only want to say that the last chapter was hard, because what the author said there could be about the genocide currently happening in Gaza. I was speechless.
First time reading Dickens in its original form and, oh boy, did he know how to write. I got lost marvelling the beauty of his sentences, so well constructed and connected, that I had to reread some parts. It is a depressing story, but it has a happy ending. Even though it is a somehow long book, don't be fooled by its size, it's quite engaging, it keeps you wanting to continue their adventures. Oh and the humor? Gosh, I love Dickens' humor! It took me years to finish it, however, it wasn't due to the story or not grabbing me as it was supposed to. Life and other books got in the way.
