At first I was very confused. I wasn't sure what the book would be about and despite reading the summary over and over again I couldn't set up any expectations. All I knew was that this was a highly praised work of fiction.

We started in the middle of the journey and little by little together with piranesi we uncovered the truth.
My favourite bit would be piranesi's identity and his view on it by the end of the book. I was mourning the person he was at the same time loving the person he is. I was upset with what had happened and felt powerless that there could be nothing done to change it. I, as a reader, together with piranesi had to accept the present and let go of the past.

And a book that has made me feel so much is definitely deserving of a 5/5.

To be honest I wished to see more of their political relationship and what it meant for the citizens but this was still very gratifying. It was intimate and forgiving. A good way to end their story.

I read this entire series in three days, obsessed with it and gradually learning to love Laurent and Damen. The characters had some great character development, it was fun to see them being confronted with their own beliefs and changing. This series also had some great plottwists and foreshadowing. 5/5 I recommend this to everyone who loves a good fantasy romance story involving two enemy princes.

Just holy shit, this book was awesome. That ending left me so excited and anxious, I'm going to read the next book as soon as I've written this review.

This book, contrary to its precedent book, was less convoluted in words and more in plot. I'm just in loss of words, every bit of information and detail had been placed carefully onto our laps creating this incredible story.
Seeing Damen being confronted with the other side of the war as a patriotic Prince, a confrontation that has him questioning customs of his own country and all the while falling in love with the cunning Prince who's somehow always once step ahead of everyone. Tangible tensions between Laurent and Damen and the betrayal of people you would've expected the least.
Everything connected in ways I didn't expect it to be and it just left me more enthusiastic for King's rising.

I wasn't too sure about this series at first seeing so many dubious reviews even from people whose opinions I somewhat valued but I'm happy I gave it a chance and I hope more people, too. This was way more than just lust, romance and war, it's about two men who would do anything to save their country.

This was such a fun read. It was lighthearted as well as emotional. Even a bit stressful reliving the US elections in the last twenty pages.

My favourite bit was the love mails, I just swooned with every confession and every poem. It really felt like I was reading a historical moment between two lovers.

Reading this was an emotional rollercoaster. From happiness to giddiness to sadness to anger all in 385 pages.

Through Evelyn Hugo I saw a poor yet ambitious girl from Hell's kitchen, a successful woman who suffered at the hands of the man she once loved, a career driven woman who loved being sexual in the 20th century, a woman who was in love with another woman in a time with no kindness and understanding towards lgbtq+ in USA and a woman who would do anything for her family.

Through Evelyn I've loved everyone's she's ever loved and I've hated everyone's she's hated. And I've loved her so much because of it. I've never felt love for a character in a book as much as I do now for Evelyn and I will think of her as someone dear to me.

Although I cried a lot, I can't really say the ending wasn't happy. Evelyn is finally home with the people she loves and I believe she's happy.

5/5 definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to feel melancholic and loves character driven stories.

I believe I am easily entertained and I love giving books high ratings but this book was so bad. I had to drag myself through the god awful diologue and the predictable plot. It took me months to finish this book and I really didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would.

However there were some good parts to it, too. The writing was overall good and the author knows how to describe the setting well (the descriptions were too long sometimes). I liked a few of the characters but unfortunately most of them died.
