really liked this as a sequel. having aunt lydias pov was great I loved hearing her try and justify her actions lol. but the ending really fell flat for me, very clearly written with a 2016 liberal optimism that has become laughably naive since. it was a bit painful to read and hear this optimism in 2025 tbh. not really the fault of Atwood I guess. loathed the fact aunt lydia also helped end Gilead. I just dont think this character would have done that. God forbid a woman is evil sometimes.

DID NOT FINISH: 33%
yeah im never gonna finish this one gang
theres a kind of bleak rainy english cosyness to this.
people are very torn on the writing of this? its Fine. impressive enough for a debut and im not sure where the slander comes from but its solidly average.
loved the narration, it felt very accurate to being that age. i also dont mind the setting being modern but if i didnt also grow up with smartphones i could see it being an issue.
