The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff

I really really liked this one. It was very contained and tightly paced while still being expansive. Lots of stuff about misogyny/disability/class/race and how they intersect. I loved the girl a lot.

Not really my usual thing, but fun little book. I kinda wish it had been grosser, though the body horror stuff was fun.

I'm usually iffy with YA nowadays, it just doesn't hit me the same way anymore, but the premise drew me in enough I knew I had to try it. As someone who also went to sleep away camp, and for ten years - I was 17 my last year - being nonbinary in that extremely gendered space is such a strange, isolating experience that this book captured extremely well. The horror was also great. I enjoyed this book a lot.

Intensely boring & uninteresting, listening was a struggle every time. Sorry to my local library's book club but this one was a dud.

Took ages to finish cause my loan ran out when I had about two hours left & I had to wait through the hold line again, TORTUROUS. Fantastic book!

Kinda wanna recommend this book to my mom while making it clear I do not ever intend on getting pregnant. I think it's an intersection of transness and parenthood that she would find interesting

5.0

I can't even bring myself to take a fourth of a star away for the incredibly sexual/scatalogical chapter explaining how hot dogs are made that I had the misfortune of listening to with my coworker while we finished making bread for the day. Actually, I have one or two friends who might actively enjoy that segment. I should recommend this book to them.
